Hello, It was equally my dream and today I'm happy to be living my dream. For me, what did it for me is Electrical and Electronic Engineering background, C programming,embedded system, real time programming and my knowledge and passion for other programming languages. Good degree and perform well in the interview stage. Note, you will be coming as a graduate trainee. So they would not be expecting you to know it all but you have to demonstrate the aptitude that you are trainable and smart enough to bring something to the table.
