Recently the government of the Gambia under Yayah Jahmeh informed the world of Gambia decision to pull out of the Commonwealth.

For whatever reason that informed the Gambia government to embark on this decison, I am in support of it. The reason being that the rich countries of the commonwealth are not helping the struggling countries to rise up.

Take for example, Countries like the United Kingdom ( Britain ) Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc possess a lot of resources to accommodate citizens from other member state like Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, South Africa and so on.

But these countries denied other Commonwealth national easy access to their countries by tighting up immigration. If you are a Nigerian, Ghanian, Gambians, you can not easily secure travelling visa to these rich commonwealth countries.

More recently the United Kingdom issued a 3,000 British Pound ( BPS ) on Nigerian travellers entering Britain including citizen from some few other countries. This is unfair to Nigerians and citizen from the not so developed countries.

It is against the culture of commonwealth and what the commonwealth is promoting.

The commonwealth is supposed to have a system whereby one citizen from one commonwealth can enter another commonwealth country visa free.

This bad policy have grown to a stage whereby commonwealth countries in the caribean such as Trinidad and Tobaga, are even tighting up their immigration to Nigerians citizen traveling there.

If you want to travel to Trinidad from Nigerian the Trindad High Commission will request that you deposit a security money which will be given to you upon your return to Nigeria from Trindad this does not promote the culture of the commonwealth. Take Canada, for example, it is one of the most liberal countries of the world as it welcome foreigners from all part of the world to come in to live and work. But Canada today is tighting up immigrations policies due to advice from Britain. British national goes out of there way to enjoy other countries, live there and get better job overseas but they do not want other citizen from developing countries to live in Britain freely as they often torment their visitor by constantly tampering and changing immigration policies every now and then. Nigerian will recall the huge number of their citizen that was deported from Britain within this past years. This is against the spirit of the commonwealth.

Against all this back ground, Gambia is right in pulling out the the commonwealth. What development has the commonwealth even brought to Nigeria in the first place.

If Nigeria aligned itself with China we will benefit more than with this so called commonwealth that is not bringing any good to our life but a symbol of British exploitative expansionism.

Are those countries richer than Nigerian or that they have fewer thieving politicians and manages their resource better than Nigeria?

Why do you want other countries to help us while we are not helping ourselves? Why do we steal and bank in those countries and not investing in our own country?

Justwise, I quite agree with you that our political class ( politician ) here in Nigerian are our biggest set back as they do not want the country to develop as our pet-dollars are being looted by these shameless politician and their cronies.

Money meant for development are being diverted to private account both locally and internationally. The same politician re-cycle themselves in every government and pretending that they are the solution to our myriad of problems. They pass the baton to their children who continue with the same habits. We have a long way to go as this politician are not prepared to change from their corrupt tendency.

May God help us.
