Strangely, Mourinho says he was
delighted when Lampard turned him
down, explaining: "He is Chelsea.
This is where he belongs."
Despite his ties with the Stamford
Bridge club, Lamps did think long
and hard before deciding to stay in
London.
Mourinho said: "It was close, very,
very close. When he eventually
turned me down I told him he had
made the right decision."
Mourinho also spoke of his high
regard for Chelsea's old guard, John
Terry, Ashley Cole and Lampard -
players he once called
'untouchables'.

The Portuguese coach said: "They
have made my life easier.
Some managers bring in four or five
guys they know well when they first
arrive at a club.
"I didn't need to. They were already
here."
And Mourinho says Lamps, Terry and
Cole have helped him to get his
ideas across to the team because
they have had the benefit of playing
under him several years ago.
He said: "It was a help for me, the
way they communicated with other
people, the way they know me and
the way they helped others
understand my ideas.
"They are good guys, they are
professional and the relationship
they have with me is perfect for the
time of their career because they
trust me."
