Lasena Artesian Thermal Aquifer which was discovered in 2009,is the second known Artesian well in Africa, the first being the KALAHARI AQUIFER in Namibia which was discovered in 1995.The hydro census conducted in 2000 by the German development institute, showed that the Kalahari Aquifer Table in Namibia extends to Botswana and part of South Africa Orange region. The result shows that ground water in these Artesian Aquifers is too saline for both human and animal consumption because of the huge concentration of Nitrates hence it is usually described as "Salt Block".

The study further shows that the depth of the boreholes ranges from 250-380 meters with a water temperature of around 30°C, while the age of the water is put at about 40,000 years because of the characteristics of the Kalahari Artesian Aquifers bed, very little of its water is useful for consumption and irrigation. This is why is not as popular as other Artesian Aquifer in France, Canada, Karlovy Vary, USA and Australia.
However, Lasena Artesian Aquifer has a depth of 522 meters, second in depth after the Grenelle Well in Paris, France with a depth of 600 meters, discovered in 1841.The temperature of Lasena Artesian Aquifer is between 65°C-70°C with high alkaline element and natural PH of 7.5. The aquifer has very high hydrostatic pressure that forces the water to the surface and hence no need for any mechanical pumping machine. Although no hydro census has been carried out in the OPIC Isheri North Artesian Water bed, we believe that the water will be up to 80,000 years old because of the characteristics exhibited by Lasena Artesian Thermal Aquifer. If these characteristics are extrapolated, one could guess that the water will be about 80,000 years old.
It is important to stress the difference between Artesian Aquifer and spring water. Spring water usually flows out of the rock at lower attitude without any drilling or pipe casing and the water temperature. Because spring water flows through the soil and rock formations, it collect contaminants along the way and the hydrostatic pressure is low. On the other hand, Artesian Aquifer well is drilled with pipe casing, hence it does not collect any contaminates along the way. More so, the hydrostatic pressure is usually high, while the temperature is equally very high and the natural PH is also very high. More importantly, Lasena Artesian Aquifer contains high alkaline and other curative natural minerals that give it its natural healing power.
