I have a Golf A3 with bad engine and I want to put a A2 engine of say 1.6l petrol or diesel to the A3 Golf. Is it an easy swap ?

This  request is targeted at those who understand the jargons for VW.

A2 is second generation golf/jetta
A3 is 3rd generation


A2 engines are cheap in Naija about 50k with  carburettor engines available while I guess the A3 engines all are injected engines

Obua is correct.

A1 / A2 / A3 refers to the VW / Audi platform.

Obua, as for fitting an A2 engine to your A3-platform Golf, it's not an issue.

If your bottom end is goosed, then you can fit the A2 engine, combined with the A3 cylinder head, as well as the A3 ancillaries - manifolds, engine mounts, flywheel and clutch, oil filter housing, oil pressure switches, (x2) and all A3 sensors, alternator / starter etc.

As for installing a diesel motor, be it from A2 or A3 platform, it'll be costly, as you'll have to replace the fuel tank in your car with a diesel one, and pretty much rewire your car to suit
