One of Nigeria’s foremost telecommunication companies, Airtel Nigeria, once again proved its avowed love for the country and particularly, the future of the country, the kids. And quickly following the heels of the very successful Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) Championship, recently staged in Lagos, the company stormed that renowned land of honey and milk, AJ city, in the company of famous ex-Arsenal soccer star, Robert Pires, for a football kick-about.

The venue was the mini pitch of Oremeji Primary School 2, Tolu, which was reconstructed and equipped by the telecom company as one of its several Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. According to the chief host, Hon. Adewale Adeogun, the executive secretary for education in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government, the visit by the company and the former Arsenal star player, would definitely have a positive impact in the lives of the young kids in the school.

“We appreciate this memorable day”, Hon.Adeogun remarked. “Airtel has continued to prove that it is indeed, a partner in progress. I’d also say a big welcome to Robert Pires and assure him of a very exciting game with our kids”, he said.

In his own speech, Mr Emeka Oparah, representing Airtel Nigeria, recalled the history of the beautifully reconstructed school and his company, stating that it was borne out of his company’s desire to contribute to the growth of the kids and future of the country.

At the game proper, a five-a-side team was each led by the Frenchman Pires and Hon. Adeogun. Trust the AJ kids, as they huffed and puffed with raw and rough soccer skills that excited the crowd and also amazed the ever-smiling Frenchman. And not to be outshined Hon.Adeogun and Robert Pires, also showed glimpses of their footballing skills to the delight of the crowd.

The ex-Arsenal star, had earlier disclosed during his speech to the kids of the school that he is a father of three kids, while advising them to take their education seriously. He also thanked the organizers of the event for making it possible for him to visit Nigeria, as he also appreciates the warm reception given to him.

After the novelty match, he presented branded gift packs to the kid players, as well as having photo sessions with fans, officials and players.
