ALERT: PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has predicted that Nigeria will witness a partial solar eclipse on Sunday 03rd November, 2013 between 1pm and 4pm.

Solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, and the moon fully or partially blocks the sun.
This phenomenon is usually associated with adverse effects, in this case, damage to the eyes (for individuals who look directly at the sun during this time). The ray from it is destructive. It contains harmful rays which can destroy the tissue of the eyes. The damage to the eye can range in severity from mild to very severe forms of blindness.

Staff and dependents should avoid looking at the sun directly or even the use of mirror to visualize the event. Do not use sunglasses, binoculars, telescopes. In the absence of the eclipse shades, people could watch the eclipse in a bowl of water in an open space where the phenomenon would be reflected in the bowl of water.

The critical time would be when the shadow had come and pass, some who did not get the shades would love to watch to see what had happened. This could also lead to permanent impairment.
As sensational as the phenomenon would be, people should be careful not to risk damaging their eyes.

Remember your eyes play an important role in your life! Avoid damages to it.
