Nike’s We Run Series™ Comes To Lagos! by Mannastoress: 8:42am On Nov 06, 2013
On Saturday, 16 November 2013, Nike’s We Run race will kick off in Lagos for the first time to inspire, support and connect runners around the world. Lagos will be the 16th city out of 26 cities which will run a race this year, with 2000 runners expected to participate in the first We Run Lagos race. The runners will be part of a global We Run race movement, and will see a total of 350,000 anticipated runners in 2013, take over 3 billion strides during the course of the WE Run race series. It will forge a new global community of athletes through Nike’s most connected race series yet with innovative Nike+ technology.

The Nike We Run Lagos 10km race will flag off from the Onikan stadium, through the Eko bridge and terminate at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere, Lagos, and is a first of its kind in Nigeria.

The first citizen of Lagos, Governor Babatunde Fashola will be on hand to start off the symbolic race.

Proud participants can expect a unique and memorable experience as they will be running against the backdrop of some of Lagos’s iconic landmarks. Runners can expect to see many local athletes. There will also be a surprise musical performance by a leading musical act at the end of the race.

To quote Patrick Seehafer, Nike Vice President and General Manager Global running “Nike’s We Run series offers much more than a one-day race. Through the Nike+ ecosystem and Nike+ community, we are able to connect runners globally, inspiring and motivating them to achieve and exceed their race goals. That being said, this effectively makes Nike+ the biggest running community in the world.”

Anwar Jappie is Nike’s Marketing Director for Africa. His message to the organisers of this event is “Through this trail blazing edition of We Run Lagos, Nike wants to create an experience like no other. We are excited with the prospect of a 10km race and we want every runner to feel good about themselves. What will make this a truly unique experience is that the runners will be connected through Nike+, a global community where you can share your personal achievements, gain encouragement as you work towards your goal”

Registration is FREE and begins on 1st November 2013, on www.werunlagos.com. Participants can also register at the numerous Nike Stores in Lagos. Interested participants are advised to register early because the slots are limited and are being filled up quickly.
