I want to bring to your notice an online fraud targeted at MTN Nigeria’s customers. Now this fraud is not new, but the modus operandi has ‘improved’. Schemes such as these are normally meant to defraud gullible and unsuspecting people of their airtime, but now it includes a potential threat to your bank deposit. I followed the scheme to the end using dummy information. I will explain with pictures.

First, you get a text containing an activation code asking you to logon to http://www.yesmtn.com to claim a N200,000 cash prize

From the home page you enter your activation code.For fun try 7070

….Next is a poorly designed page displaying various bank logos. You will be required to choose your bank and enter your bank details.

…next is a page where you will be required to enter recharge card pins to enable the transfer of N200,000 to your bank of choice..

I entered a dummy pin and the page began loading…

Then I got this error page. My recharge card details weren’t accepted..
