Why Did The Apostles Use The Septuagint? by Nobody: 12:53pm On Nov 15, 2013
The septuagint was the basis of Catholic canonisation of the OT scriptures in the fourth century. The canon thus produced produced 7 books which the jews rejected at the council of jamnia in AD 90 as not been in their canon.Curiously it was later found that majority of Old testament quotations found in the NT bible were sourced fromthe septuagint rather than the jewish masoretic text.

i would like someone to explain to me why a collection actually used by the apostles should not be considered canonical

The Septuagint /ˈsɛptjuːəˌdʒɪnt/, /ˈsɛptuːəˌdʒɪnt/, /ˌsɛpˈtuːədʒɪnt/, /ˈsɛptʃuːəˌdʒɪnt/, from the Latin word septuaginta (meaning seventy), is a translation of the Hebrew Bible and some related texts into Koine Greek. The title and its Roman numeral acronym "LXX" refer to the legendary seventy Jewish scholars that completed the translation as early as the late 2nd century BCE. As the primary Greek translation of the Old Testament, it is also called the "Greek Old Testament" ("Η μετάφραση των Εβδομήκοντα'"wink. This translation is quoted in the New Testament,[1] particularly in the writings of Paul the Apostle,[2] and also by the Apostolic Fathers and later Greek Church Fathers.

Starting approximately in the 2nd century CE, several factors led most Jews to abandon use of the LXX. The earliest gentile Christians of necessity used the LXX, as it was at the time the only Greek version of the Bible, and most, if not all, of these early non-Jewish Christians could not read Hebrew. The association of the LXX with a rival religion may have rendered it suspect in the eyes of the newer generation of Jews and Jewish scholars.[20] Instead, Jews used Hebrew/Aramaic Targum manuscripts later compiled by the Masoretes; and authoritative Aramaic translations, such as those of Onkelos and Rabbi Yonathan ben

The Septuagint was the existing Greek Translation of the Scriptures at that time, and they were too ignorant of the Greek, or their Translators were too ignorant of the Aramaic to make their own translations.

Therefore, they included the Hebrew Scholar Interpretations of verses that they padded the Original Scriptures with.

. HABBAKUK 2:4. Original

4. The Just shall live by Faith.

. HABBAKUK 2:4. Septuagint Version.

4. The Just shall live by Faith- and if any soul shall draw back,
My Soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Whereas this may be helpful to the reader, it stinks- because people are making out that their own ideas are Sacred.
