Definitely Medicine. They have more prospects. |

^^U definitely don't know the meaning of 'prospect'. Pharmacy does av more prospect than medicine. @OP I'd advise u to Google the two professions. U must be able to go through the rigours of school work of both professions. 7 Likes |

You can study anyone u like they're both good courses but ur physiology background makes medicine a better idea. P. S: Whichever u choose at d end of d day pls remember to do ur best, cos no course(either medicine or pharmacy) is a guarantee of success 3 Likes |

Let me also add to the comments above, don't choose any of the 2 courses if ur aim is to be very rich (engineering is there 4 u) medicine/other health Sciences only pay enough to be comfortable especially in Nigeria and as far as prospects is concerned though medicine is majorly restricted to d health sector d areas of specialization are wide and financially rewarding |

I had to take this discussion outside nairaland and so many people were against the study of medicine because it takes longer years and that most of them are not well paid, some said pharmacy is business oriented and pays more in nigeria, how TRUE is that |

Thank u 4 delving much into dese two professions. U made my day. With dis, my eyes are opened to tactically exploit my chosen profession in d nearest future. But do we av doctors dat earn more than #3 million after conquering d umpteen arduous professional exams? I am just curious sir, sorry 4 being childish here. Or let me it paraphrase by saying what is the maximum pay a successful nd certified doc can earn monthly? |

Amb Fitsaint:wow...3million naira a month?? I must admit very few! And in these Few dy must ol b Consultants, own a high charge Priv hospital, venture into NGO nd also work for Govt like in 3 or 4 Teachinq hospitals. Mostly rare speciality like a Neuro-Surgeon dt his xpertise z need ol over d world. I knw a Professor of Infertility dt charges close to 3m for a case,nd he'll definitely give u a child no matter how impossible nd improbable d chances are. He fail in like 2 out of 7,the problem z he won't b havinq cases ol tro dy year,so dr z bound to b broke days. I mentiond a doctor of Internal Medicine dt charges over 100,000 for in patients,dy are times dy wud lack patients also. So lemme summarize by sayinq 3million naira z high payout, involves hardwork and smartness, likely to b achieved only by a Consultant. 1 Like |

If you decide on medicine just make sure u read very well and write foreign licensing exams(US for example) early, doctors are paid ridiculously high salaries especially consultants, I'm talking anywhere between $500k to a million per annum depending on specialty and location 1 Like |

Amb Fitsaint:Amb fistan, am in your shoes also. I have been doing so many researchs on that USMLE even before i got admitted into medical school. USMLE is divided into three. Step 1 step 2 (clinical knowledge) and (clinical skills) step 3 in step 1, you will be examined on basic medical science, i.e. Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, genetics, biostatistic, behavioural medicine and dietics. So step 1 is meant to be written when you are through with BMS courses, probably after your 5th year. The exams is very demanding especially for we IMG's due to the fact that our curriculum is not designed in a way to help us prepare for the said exams. But with hard work and commitment one can easily scale through, wishing you the bestg |

Re: Medicine Or Pharmacy by lomaxx: 10:02pm On Nov 30, 2013 |
Amb Fitsaint: As an IMG, 3 things would determine whether or not you'll be accepted into residency in the US. 1) USMLE scores 2) US Clinical Experience where you get LORs (Letters of reccomendation) 3) Personal statement. I also intend to pursue a US Residency and Fellowship after graduation. IMG= International Medical Graduate. We're sha derailing the thread. The medics thread would be a nice place to continue this discussion. |
