These churches still exist and are just as abusive as ever. I often wonder why people remain in such churches after the church abuse is exposed. Some possible reasons are suggested by the website, Deception in the Church.

1. Loyalty to charismatic leadership over the bible.

2. Believing what’s said based on who says it. Truth is determined by what the leaders say.

3. An unwillingness to question leaders.

4. Fear of disapproval by the group.

5. Elitist and exclusive. They think of themselves as on the spiritual cutting edge. An excessive need of belonging to the ‘inner circle’.

6. Dismissive attitudes towards those outside the group.

7. An “us” versus “them” mentality.

8. Those outside the group just don’t understand.

9. Lack of tolerance for dissent.

10. Rational thought is discouraged.

11. Superior ends of the group justify the means.

12. Group leaders determine how followers should think and what is ‘true’.

13. Lack of discretion and independent thought.

14. Cultic persons gravitate towards dependence upon a ‘priesthood’ for their contact with God.

15. Accusation of self-doubt in relation to leadership.

16. Lack of recourse and accountability outside the group.

Why are you comparing a church to a cult. You can't expect members of the church to start questioning the pastor everytime. Buh I still get your point and people should stop ffg pastors blindly.
