You are right about Jesus Christ and Mohammed. But Einstein, Bell, the Wrights, the pope, Shakespeare, Churchill, all fall short of it. Much as they may have contributed a lot to modern civilization, they didn't and perhaps still do not have a world-wide appeal.

Well, appeal goes in hand with the ability to inspire. and if we are going to be straight-jacket about his use of the word "influence" then Nelson Mandela wouldn't be on that list.
