Road accidents and reckless driving are not popular just in one country or continent, as it is a common challenge the world is facing. Though developed countries are battling these challenges much better than the under-developed ones and developing countries; perhaps the awareness level and different measures taken to curb these challenges are part of the reason for the differences.
There is no surprise that many African countries are top ranks among countries with the highest number of road accidents and fatalities.
Road Accidents And Traffic FatalitiesIt is imperative to note that some countries; underdeveloped and developing countries do not have access to good roads, therefore making the roads an enemy of the people and sadly responsible for maiming promising lives.
According to Goos, 1.3 million road deaths occur worldwide every year and more than 50 million people are seriously injured. There are 3,500 deaths a day or 150 every hour, and nearly three people get killed on the road every minute.

“Road danger is not just statistics, it causes a great deal of suffering for the people who have lost a loved one or who are handicapped. Road danger has a big impact in our lives,” Goos pointed out.
Driving takes a lot of responsibility and discipline, and it is sad that may road users do not know this, perhaps they do, but are just highly irresponsible to know how severe a little disobeying of the any traffic rule can be dangerous to their lives and others around them.
And if we continue with the present efforts’, the number of traffic fatalities worldwide will rise by 67 percent over the period of 2000 to 2020, 68 percent in the Middle East and North African region, and 144 percent in Southeast Asia and middle to low-income countries by 83 percent, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) prediction.
According to one research carried out by the World Health Organisation (WHO), out of 192 countries ranked, Nigeria has the second highest rate of road accidents.
It is imperative we all exercise caution during and we must all remember that there is danger in drinking and driving, and over speeding.
