It amazes me why everything in Nigeria must have a POLITICAL undertone. If the state government being lead by the PEOPLE'S governor Owelle Is wrong in collecting these levies which the banks say it is wrong, why can't they go to the court of statutory jurisdiction to get a court injunction restraining the state government from harassing them as they have been alleging. I hope this is not part of the moves of Papa Destroy Pikin ( PDP ) being led by the Undisputed Clueless Commander. In Chief Of Corruption to forestall developments in Imo while trying to dent the image of the people's governor. It shall be well with this country one day Amen

basilo101: APC and overtaxing

This is exactly how APC will rule Nigeria if we vote them. Because the banks refused to lend money to Okorocha, he decided to overtax them even while he is already on CBN debtors blacklist after already borrowing over N100 billion.
Imo people take heart and take it easy.

As deluded as you are, it amazes me how you show how your have grown in public stupidity & ignorance. It won't surprise me if you equally don't know that in any occurrence of an event, there must be a remote & immediate cause. Instead of bank's going on strike thereby denying the masses their corporate responsibility to the people, why can't they go to court to restrain those who they said are harassing them or it there something fishy they don't want us to know. The earlier you know how to pursue your right in the right place & channel, the better for you.

You are fool,Rochas is broke and will go to jail.
zealed64: yea, it's just unfortunate.. Does it mean all these while the banks have not been paying their taxes?..

OHAKIM GOVERNMENT MUST HAVE BEEN PATRONIZING CROOKED DEAL WITH THEM DURING HIS TIME..! I HEARD THE TAX IS AMOUNTING TO BILLIONS OF NAIRA( arrears accumulated)... They should investigate properly who's been consuming these monies before now (both banks and govt officials)..

It amazes me how imolites ruin their own state because of the ongoing PDP vs APC tussle

Let us learn to say the truth in some situations especially as it has to do with our dear state

Rochas is wrong to have imposed such levy on the banks

Imo residents will recall that about four months ago all fuel stations in the state also shut down because rochas introduced and tried to force them to pay an unofficial levy of one million naira each

Sometimes I pity the imolites in diaspora who fail to call their relatives on ground, they however choose to believe in the biased media

Wake up imolites

Rochas isn't the man we think he is

The state governments move is an indirect way of increasing VAT from the statutory 5% to 10%. You of all people should know that the cost of this tax will be tranfered to the customers ie the citizenry. The bankers association said that the have paid all outstanding taxes required by law to the state government.this is a form of extra tax. Their concern is about the customers and not hypertaxin people.honestly, I believe imo state government is broke because similar impasse haPpened earlier between the state government and petroleum marketers ie filling stations shut down because of 1million extra tax by the state government.this lockdown may continue until rochas looks for an alternative cashcow

if, the state govt 'indirectly' imposed extra 5% value added tax on banks--which seem to be wrong... Why are the banks refusing/ delaying to go to court, hence they ve an edge over the state govt for extra charging them which is 'NOT' required by law. I perceive banks are susceptible because of crooked deals in regards to this tax, that's why they relent in going to court...

POTUT: Why haven't the banks gone to court?

they will, starting monday. the state government is broke. he's owing health workers 9 month salary in the specialist hospital, owing ministerial workers 4 month salary. infact,he's owing everyone. before that, he was making deductuons from peoples salary, promising to pay later. he has been also blacklisted from borrowing anymore money by CBN.

giving the attendant issues with courts in Nigeria, and seeing that their head branches in the state have been shut by rochas(meaning it will be difficult for other branches to function),maybe they decided that the lockdown is the quickest and best means to seTtle their grieviances against the government.let's see what happens
