Should I Face It Now Or Later? by odogwu123: 11:10am On Dec 24, 2013
Good day my fellow nairalanders. I discovered (by medical lab test) that the infection I once suffered affected my fertility. My sperm count has become low (11 million) compared to the minimum of at least 20 million required to make a baby. The motility is also not good enough. The issue now is that I want to start taking FertiAid supplements to boost it, but my medical doctor said I should not worry about that now since I have not yet started child bearing. I have a fiancée and planning my wedding next year. Should I not start this top up process now? Is it really better to start when I am ready to have kids. According to the doctor, that time will present even a perfect opportunity to prove the test right (or otherwise) by trying to conceive with my wife. Secondly, my wife doesn't know yet and I am thinking of telling her as soon as I start this treatment. Now, if I delay the treatment until after our wedding, I don't know how she will take it by then. I am so confused I don't even know what to do. Please, advise my people.

Thanks

Revisit your doctor, explain your concern to him. If he gives you a go ahead to start taking it, then you can. My knowledge of medicine is restricted to what everybody knows. I believe your doctor should be in the best position for medical advice.

Concerning your fiancee, it is good that you discuss the medical condition with her now to know her stand. If because of this she wouldn't stay with you, let her go, its a sign that she wouldn't weather the storm with you when situation calls for it. You never can tell maybe it will reveal who she really is.

I am an advocate of openness and sincerity in relationships. If I were in your shoes, I would have explained what the doctor said to her and further reassure her that it will be well if she stays with me. Will also give her an opportunity to leave if she decides to because of the condition.

Bro, fear not, according to your post, the challenge is one with a solution.

Discuss this with your fiancée and take it from there.
I would suggest you start treatment.
Let see if it will increase to 13 million, like that you have hope with your present doctor.

I would say you should discuss your medical condition with your fiancée before marriage, after which both of you can go visit the specialist again. That way together you can plan when and how to start planning your family and when to begin treatment.
