Statistics from Dow Jones has revealed that Google is the most talked about company of the year 2013 after overtaking Apple which moved from first place last year to second place this year.

Infographics from Dow Jones revealed that Google was mentioned 123,769 times while Apple which came second was mentioned 120,451 times.
Dow Jones used its DJX Factiva’s extensive news archive to track coverage of all companies in The Global Dow in global and print publication. This was gathered between January 1, 2013 and December 1, 2013.

Apple was first last year with 165,100 mentions while Google had 114,954 mentions in 2012. Apple had 130,511 mentions in 2011 while Google had 104,071 mentions.

Microsoft had 84,174 mentions to make it the third most talked about company of the year 2013.

It was gathered that the highest number of mentions came for Google in the month of May when it had its developer conference. Expectedly, Apple’s highest number of mentions was in September when it announced its new products; iPhone 5S and 5C, iOS7.

Google is the company behind Android operating system which has over 80% of the smartphone market and Google Search which has about 70% of the search market. Of course, there are other interesting projects like Google Glass, Driverless cars, white space internet and so on.

Other companies that made the top ten include Bank of America which came in at fourth, Boeing, Citigroup, and BP which came in at fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. The top ten is completed by Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and IBM.
