I guess deepZone meant giant of giants. Shell is not solely owned by the British; HSBC is not in the league of American financial empires like JP Morgan Chase and Citi. I don't know about British Aerospace but most of their companies are solely local champions and may not raise it's tentacles on the world scene.

Google is owned by its shareholders but it was founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, two Mathematics PHD's from Stanford University. Infact, it was their PHD project and initially, google used the Stanford University servers to run google.

Yahoo also came from Stanford University PHD's. Infact, anything substantial in Computational Mathematics usually comes out from Stanford University.

i repeat, it is not a known brand all over the world and even if you took time to read the link that you posted you would have realised that. This is why when they buy up existing companies in other countries such as ASDA in the UK and the other one in Japan they keep the existing names because even they know that 'Walmart' is not a well known brand outside the US and know one would be looking to shop in there if 'Walmart ' emblazoned across the fronts of their stores in those countries because people prefer their own brands.

And as for walmart retaining their name for China, then that is not surprising at all given the fact the Chinese want to associate themselves with everything Western right now. It was in the news the other day about how they had placed an order for tens or thousands of London black cabs which in itself says a lot about their penchant for anything western.

Someone asked what good had come out of the UK and I obligingly answered the question.

I didn't say that there weren't any American companies all over the world. Obviously it seems like you and some others have a chip on your shoulders and want to show how 'big' America is to the UK' by coming out with silly obnoxious comments about nothing ever good coming out of the UK, when in pure fact if the UK didn't exist, then neither would the US. To reiterate some of the the biggest brands in America as listed on the Forbes list are not well known brands outside of the US such as Daimler, General electric, General motors and Walmart and I was trying to make a point that just because some of the biggest UK companies were not well known in the US it didn't mean ish. Plenty of UK brands are known outside of the UK, in the rest of the world, the world being bigger than America.

Please try to get out of hicksville more often.

Correction on my part, Dailmer is actually German, merged with Chrysler, American, but American cars are not popular all over the world if at all no so one outside of the US is checking for the American part of the business which is probably why Chrysler wanted to merged with the German manufacturer in the first place.
