Rover models suffer from engine and transmission problems, especially auto models.

Some 600 series had Honda engines, some had Rover K-series.

The K-series motors are to be avoided at all costs, unless you do your own wrenching, and just love the challenge.

The K-series cylinder heads suffered from porousity, this was never corrected throughout it's lifetime.
I've lost count of the number of cylinder head gaskets I've replaced over the years, and 8 out of 10 times, the cylinder heads are cracked between the ports, and need to be replaced completely.

The K-series block is also aluminium, and is fitted with wet cylinder liners, another common cause of failure.

Then, add the electrical gremlins, and you have a true money pit.
The electrical gremlins also applies to Honda-engined models, and regardless of engine type, the auto transmission is a minefield.

In the UK, transmission failure has sent many a Rover to the junkyard, as they're not cost effective to repair.

Still, I can only advice, you make your choices.
