OUR CHURCH: A KALEIDOSCOPE

The colours are more than a rainbow’s
The expressions as different as the faces.
A big scarf; so big those behind become blind
Some hat; a poultry of feathers.
The man over there, he looks moody
You think this is a funeral, not a worship service.
That lady nods away, oblivious of others
You wonder; is this really boring?
The girl behind the man behind the scarf
She so gyrates, she’s certainly possessed
Whether the spirit is good or evil…?
Hey! Those boys have been talking since morning.
That suit on the elder
Looks like Marks and Spencer.
Definitely he bought it yesterday
He doesn’t need to tell us. He has shown us.
The female choristers,
What lovely voices, lovelier faces.
The male choristers,
Who are those? Is the choir master deaf?
The dance round to drop the offering
As interesting and exciting as a disco.
Oh! No, the scarf has unfurled
Why don’t these things become unfashionable?
The lady with headful of poultry
She struts forward to testify
And talks and talks and talks…
My goodness! My stomach is growling.
Here goes the benediction
What was it again the preacher said?
About the Good Lord and the devil
Am really the worst of us all.
