This poem is to all my African ladies who feel good about themselves in spite of what people try to say to them.

She stares into the mirror, into the reflection of herself,
She surveys her body, the temple she keeps,
Sweeping with her fingers loose particles of curly black hair,
Oiling her brown skin, massaging with care,
She rediscovers herself.
Her eyes,  she look into them,
So much they have seen,
The good, the bad and everything in between,
Those dark brown eyes,
Big and bold,
Hold no secrets from her.
She rediscovers
Her skin
She stares deeply into an ebony blend,
Smooth and strong like good coffee,
Dark and lovely,
And like a book you can read its story,
Each little scar holds a childhood tale of curiosity and bravery,
Each wound healed, rebuilt and restored,
This Queendom shall never fall.
She rediscovers all,
Her lips,
With her finger she traces upon the outlines,
Finding the slight dip, the curve that shapes those luscious lips,
Soft to the touch, best when kissed,
Those lips reveal,
Powered by the tongue, it speaks what she feels.
She rediscovers
Her body,
Each part of her created the way it should be,
No alterations needed,
That temple,
Like the Sistine chapel,
Designed in detail to perfection.
She is a masterpiece,
And she almost forgot that,
Till she looked into the mirror,
And rediscovered herself.
