Is Importance Of Social Media To Companies Over Rated? by okpismart: 9:21am On Jun 29, 2014
These days the normal thing is for every company to have a social media page - facebook, twitter, pinterest, google+ etc.

But the question is, are all these social media pages really relevant to your business?
Well social media is like fuel. For it to be relevant there has to be FIRE first. And the fire is RELEVANT CONTENT. Not just any content.

Your company must have valuable content to share. Your company must have something important to say, else it would just be a total waste of your energy and resources.

In fact social media may even be detrimental to your corporate image. Nothing hurts online users like taking time to visit your page online to find outdated or irrelevant stuffs posted by spammers on your company page. Or when they ask questions expecting an answer in a few minutes only to be disappointed for months.

So is importance of social media over rated? That is a unique question that every company/organization must answer uniquely in its own way. But for me, it is under rated, especially in Nigeria. Far much more could be done with social media to increase sales, increase brand awareness, boost PR etc - Provided you have the relevant content to share.
