Keshi’s departure seems to be an awaited action for over a long period of time as the NFF has said that they will let the coach go despite having one year remaining on his four year deal with the football federation. Speaking to a local radio station, the Vice President of the NFF, Mike Umeh said that they will not hold Keshi down as he departs the coaching position “We cannot stop Keshi from moving if he wants to, he’s a grown man and knows what’s good for him. If he so desires a greener pasture, then we can’t stop him, it’s up to him to decide.’’ Umeh also denied claims that the federation did not support the former Togo and Mali coach in his quest at the World Cup when he said: “It’ll not be fair to say we haven’t supported Keshi. We have given him tremendous support, more than anyone could imagine. So the thought that he hasn’t been adequately supported isn’t true.” The easy and swift acceptance of his resignation points to the thought that they must have waited for when Keshi would vacate his position, especially with his achievements with the team and the coming 2015 AFCON qualifiers. Umeh also confirmed that a new coach would be in charge of the super eagles in the qualifiers: “I’m sure a new coach will come in immediately Keshi’s departure is finalized, so that shouldn’t be a problem.” Speculations of an agreement between Keshi and the NFF to depart the position after Brazil 2014 cannot
be far fetched with as it was confirmed in this tweet by Deji Tinubu, a member of the NFF.
