Microsoft and Nokia set off to producing an android powered smartphone instead of its own windows mobile Operating system powered smartphone.

The news came in today through a reliable source on twitter, @evleaks which tweeted thus:

Big news: Android-powered Lumia incoming, from Nokia by Microsoft - http:///KKLstDDVVO
-- @evleaks (@evleaks) July 7, 2014

It is no news that nokia has joined the train of Android through the manufacture of Nokia X and X2 android devices but the Big news here is that The new device is reportedly coming in the Nokia Lumia series. Which makes it the 1st Nokia Lumia device on Android Operating system instead of the former Windows Mobile OS.

The logic behind this idea by Microsoft is probably a means to push its services to the people just as in the Nokia X smartphones which were loaded with a forked version of Android that looked a lot like Windows Phone’s Live Tile interface.

Apart from having windows mobile live tile interface, the devices didn’t run Google’s own Android apps, such as Gmail, Google Search and Google Drive as seen on most androids. It rather made users use Microsoft appssuch as Outlook, Bing and One Drive.

If this report proves true, we could see an Android-powered Lumia sometime soon.

A terrible decision in my opinion, any further release of an android phone by MS is a distraction from where their main strength lies - WP8.

MS needs to continue the fine work they are doing with WP8, build on its features some more and increase its app selection. Pandering to the android crowd is ultimately counter productive and whatever gains they might get, to me, will be minuscule compared to a complete push of their own mobile OS...
