Top 10 Ten Game Apps Made In Africa by Youpele52: 9:50pm On Jul 09, 2014
Africa is full of talented mobile app and game developers, which means that you don’t entirely have to reach out to international developers every time you are looking for something new. While some developers may be unknown to some, others have sky rocketed to success with some of their titles.
If you are looking for something homegrown then look no further as we highlight the top 10 ten games made in Africa.

1. Toxic Bunny (Android)
South Africa-based Celestial Games has come a far way with their coffee-crazed bunny. Toxic Bunny is what would happen if the Looney Toons & Monty Python were heavily armed and thrown into a blender with the best (and worst) movies of the 90′s and turned the results into a retro platform game.
Find out what happens when an almost normal rabbit gets into a really bad mood. Follow Toxic as he tries to find the person responsible for interrupting his coffee break, brainwashing all his friends and covering the planet with decaffeinated goo.

2. The Harvest
Published by Microsoft Game Studios, and developed by South African-based Luma Arcade using XNA Games Studio 4.0, The Harvest is a science fiction themed Action RPG that takes place on future Earth, some years after the fallout of a destructive alien invasion. These aliens, who have been come to be known as The Harvesters, use humans and animals to create cyborgs: crude amalgamations of flesh and machinery. Mankind, in the form of the Global Defense Force is fighting a war against The Harvesters using human controlled mechanised infantry units.

3. Bladeslinger (Android and iOS)
Another title by Luma Arcade, Bladeslinger is a fast-paced third-person action brawler for high-end mobile and tablet devices where players must defeat multiple enemies at once in both ranged and close combat.
Set in a dystopic alternate future in the fictional town of Hammer’s Peak, the narrative follows William Glaston as he returns home after many years of war to find his home town has undergone nightmarish changes.

4. Pocket RPG (Android and iTunes)
Developed by Tasty Poison Games and published by Crescent Moon Games, Pocket RPG whisks you off to a world overrun by hordes of monsters. Explore trap-filled dungeons and face mighty bosses. Collect piles of treasure and items and invest in dozens of abilities and unlockable equipment. Test your skills against the oncoming darkness.
Each quest in Pocket RPG is a new adventure. The hero starts at level zero with an empty sachel and collects items and rapidly builds their strength to dizzying proportions. Pocket RPG is not a “my numbers beat your numbers” game. Items matter and the way you use them is even more important.Pocket RPG is most definitely a game to check out by the folks over at Tasty Poison Games.

5. Neon Shadow (Android and iOS)
Another title developed by Tasty Poison Games is Neon Shadow. Neon Shadow is a fast paced Cyber Punk FPS (First Person Shooter, which has been inspired by classic shooters. Suit up and grab your shotgun. Your mission is to save humanity from the dark mechanoids who have taken control of your space station and soon the rest of the galaxy!

6. Dark Project (Android)
Dark Project has been brought to life by South African-based developer Dark Faction Games. Play as a star trooper who has been sent to investigate the disappearance of a research team sent to the planet Deltora in order to determine the possibility of the planet being inhabitable. Upon you’re arrival, you soon learn that something has gone horribly wrong, and need to face the darkness equipped with a variety of weapons as well as your trusty flashlight and search for the team fighting off mutants and zombies.

7. Snailboy (Android and iOS)
Snailboy is a rather impressive game developed by Cape Town-based Thoopid Games. Snailboy is an entertaining physics based/puzzle platform game. The game has some great graphics for a mobile game and also packs in over 45 levels of intoxicating game play.

8. Ma Hauchi (Java)
Ma Hauchi is pretty simply game to play; however, it is pretty addictive. You play as a Nigerian Hunter, who has been tasked to bring down as many vultures as you can with you bow and arrow. Simple, addictive and well designed. Lagos-based development studio, Kuluya has over 100 mobile games under their belt; however, Ma Hauchi is one that shines.

9. Fleet of One (Android and iOS)
Fleet of One reminds me a lot of Space Invaders. You play as a spaceship armed with five cannons used to blast the fleet of oncoming retro style aliens. Instead of manoeuvring your ship to dodge these aliens, your ship fills the bottom of the screen. To fire the cannons, you simply tap the one you wish to fire. If an alien manages to get off a shot before you can destroy it, you have the option to shield your cannon by swiping up. This title was developed by South African-based developer, Polymorph.

10. Orisha (Windows Phone)
Orisha has been developed by Lagos-based developer, Gamesole. Orisha is a game that is aimed at casual players; however, it can become extremely addictive. The game features a variety of levels as well as colourful and attractive graphics. While it is not the most in-depth game out there, it is a great way to kill time.
