· Against Brazil Miroslav Klose became the top scorer in FIFA World Cup history with 16 goals, one more than Ronaldo.

· The German forward also played his 23rd match in the global showpiece and moved up to second in the competition’s appearance ranking, level with Paolo Maldini and two games behind Lothar Matthaus.

· Germany have now qualified for eight World Cup Finals, more than any other team. The Germans also wrested back the title of all-time World Cup top scorers from Brazil and currently lead by 223 goals to 221.

· Germany’s 7-1 win is the most emphatic semi-final victory in World Cup history, eclipsing three 6-1 successes recorded by Argentina against USA and Uruguay against Yugoslavia in 1930, followed by Germany FR against Austria in 1954.

· Thomas Muller is the 13th player to reach double figures for World Cup goals and the fifth German to do so after Helmut Rahn (ten), Gerd Muller (14), Jurgen Klinsmann (11) and Miroslav Klose (16).

· The 7-1 loss to Germany equalled Brazil’s heaviest-ever defeat, a 6-0 drubbing against Uruguay in the Copa America 1920.

· The previous biggest margin of defeat for a host team in a World Cup match was three goals, in Sweden’s 5-2 loss to Brazil in 1958, Mexico’s 4-1 reverse against Italy in 1970 and South Africa’s 3-0 defeat by Uruguay in 2010.

· Germany are the third team to score five first-half goals in a World Cup match after Austria against Switzerland in 1954 and Poland against Haiti in 1974. Only Yugoslavia did better, netting six in the opening period against Zaire in 1974.
