What's With Engineers Taking Over Audit Firms?? by Nobody: 7:15am On Jul 12, 2014
Am just curious to know the major reason why Engineers(Chemical, mechanical,Elct Elct...e.t.c)who should be contributing immensly in their respective fields are "stooping low" and taking employment positions at audit firms in Nigeria which are primarily meant for Acconutants and those in the management field...

What do you mean by stooping low?? Its a career, school is primarily for enlightenment and social development, you dont always end up in your line of study, as long as you are giving value or contributing. It is perfectly accepted. Without sentiments, the nature of engineering positions individuals with multiple prospects.

Why cant an engineer with an MBA manage a firm, or one with ACCA qualifications dive into the accounting field. As long as the pay is comfortable and they return value for money, there is no stooping low there.

The labour market is dynamic nowadays, not a fixed one. You have to position yourself properly to fit in. Moreover no field is inferior to another, thats a wrong notion.
In a proper economy, there is effective division of labour.

You couldn't have commented better. Op even used the words 'stooping low'...... FYI @ op, the Engineering Faculty has management course modules which extensively cover project management, accounting, book keeping and enonomics. You take one in your 300level and the other in your 400level.

Thnx for Ur contribution...I just feel there's so much to conquer both in innovation and expertise in the engineering industry and these brains are delving into auditing cos they ace the aptitude tests and are good with figures. I just want to get general opinions on this cos is getting quite rampant..

You see, there is much to conquer, the job of conquering is everyone's responsibility. There are also problems to solve in the auditing field.

Mind you, there are also accountants and business chaps in the engineering industry, there is every possibility that they also can solve problems there based on experience and passion for the job. No one is limited. Your course of study is not always the deciding factor for your career.

The point is that anywhere you find yourselve, you can profer solutions to the challenges there irrespective of your discipline. The question of innovation might be a challenge in adequate resources, proper environment, corruption, et al. Not a shortage in manpower.

Cheers.
