People are so much addicted to social networking websites, apps, browsing e.t.c on their android phone. However, these contributes in consuming your data plans.
However, unlimited data plans seems to disappear and users are stuck with limited data plan usage options. Alot of people who use android are always complaining about the consumption of their data plans even though they are not browsing.
However, we have few tricks you can use to make sure your data usage is minimised.

1. Turn Off Mobile Data When Not in Use
There are times you do not use your phone , like when you are sleeping, busy or you are in a meeting. All you have to do is, go to the notification panel on your android phone and turn the mobile data option off . You can turn the mobile data off to avoid excessive data usage at these times, in case you are not expecting an urgent e-mail, which you will not be able to check, if you are not connected or online.

2. View the Mobile Version of Websites
When you view a website on your smartphone, every element, from the text to the images, has to be downloaded before it is displayed. This is not a real problem when viewing the website on your computer, using your broadband connection, but on your phone each element that is downloaded uses upto a bit of your data plans.
Increasingly, some websites now provide both a desktop and a mobile version. The mobile version will always include few images and be much lighter and faster to open. Many websites are set up to detect if you are viewing on a mobile device and will display the mobile version automatically. If you think you are viewing a desktop version on your phone, it is worth checking to see if there is a link to switch to a mobile version (usually at the bottom of the main page) or you can try m.sitename.com but not all site work with them.

3. Use a Text-only Browser
There are several third-party browsers, such as TexyOnly or other browsers that allows you to change to textonly that areavailable for smartphones which will exclude the images from a website and only display the text. By not showing the images on any web page, less data is used.

4. Restrict Background Data
Some of the main smartphone operating systems, including Android, allow you to restrict background data with the flick of a switch in the Network Settings. When you restrict background data, some apps and phone services will not work unless you have access to aWi-Finetwork.
Your phone will continue to function, and it will help to reduce the amount of data used. It is more useful if you are nearing the limit of your data allowance at the end of a month.

5. Keep a Track on Data Usage
Android offers you an option to keep a track of your mobile data usage. Through the Data Usage option you can actually track your usage and see which app used how much data. It also allows you to set up a limit on your data usage and warnings when the data usage reaches a certain stage. You could configure your android phone in such a way so as to warn you when your data usage has reached its 80% limit and completely turn the mobile data off when it reaches 100%. Although, the data usage option on your android phone may account for data in a different manner than your cellular operator, it still keeps you aware of your data usage and prevents your from over using your limit.

I hope with these few tips you will be able to reduce your internet data usage on your android phone.

Hope this helps.
