Quick question.

If I take an old (non vulgar) R&B song and replace all instances of "baby" with Jesus, will that still work?
Re: Music Minstrels Lounge/studio by whitemosquito(f): 7:03pm On Jul 19, 2014
enm: good. Where do you base
Lol. Do i really have one base? Im in lotsa places o.
Re: Music Minstrels Lounge/studio by whitemosquito(f): 7:09pm On Jul 19, 2014
@jayriginal. What do u mean by 'work' exactly?

To ATTEMPT to answer ur q tho, id hav to luk at it frm diff angles.
Re: Music Minstrels Lounge/studio by whitemosquito(f): 8:05pm On Jul 19, 2014
Using an RnB or 'worldly' tune:

First, it might shock a couple of us to learn that some of the Old time Hymns we sing were actually originally written to the tune of popular RnB, Soul songs in those days. Evangelists, did that to make it easier for new converts to remember the lines. Feel free to Google that up...

Now if we accept that as true and/or reasonable, one could say that it could equally 'work' in our time.

NEXT, substituting certain words in the Lyrics: I'll try to approach this as gingerly as possiblesmiley Every song has a Subject/Object matter to whom ONLY the song is addressing or dedicated to. This simply means that if you replace 'BABY' for 'JESUS', technically, the song no longer addresses Baby but Jesus....

Generally speaking, alot of Xtian songs have had their lyrics tweaked for Political Rally, etc purposes. No singular institution/belief/faith has a monopoly on tunes or lyrics. Lol.

However, For some though, it transcends a question of mere technicality or whether it 'works'. You should consider ur audience' sensitivities, and the occassion involved. The large majority of xtians are conventional ppl, who will frown at such, which is why you hardly find many music ministers practice it sha.

Ultimately, it should reflect glory to the Most High and not be a source of dishonor.
Re: Music Minstrels Lounge/studio by whitemosquito(f): 8:21pm On Jul 19, 2014
Personally.
PERSONALLY o! I may use the tune but not the lyrics. WHY? For a number
of reasons..
1. Copyright ish. LOL.

2. Why use somebody else's lyrics,
when I can write mine, which TRULY expresses my feelings to God?

3. No
matter how good it sounds, as far as the lyrics remain the same, to an
extent, my mind would still wander to the original song and how it made
me feel. My worship would thus be tainted. You see, music is so powerful
that everytime you hear a certain song, certain feelings, attitude or
emotions are evoked. You would have a hard time redirecting those
emotions as evoked in you or your audience back to God when they are
already associated with a particular thing. Its psychological.

4. My
brother, the truth is in this Time we're living in, there's way much to
the worldly songs than meets the eye! As a respected Minister friend of
mine said, "Why dip your hand into a pot where theres a 50/50 chance
of you bringing out a serpent or an egg? Dip your hand into the one ur
sure of any day any time."

@whitemosquitoe am deeply impress by your writeup, expect my pm. I don't believe one song is worldly because it sound like hip hop or RnB. What should matter is the wordings in the song. Is the lyric glorifying God, inviting people to God Kingdom and source of encouragement and strength to continue walking in the path laid down by God.

Re: Music Minstrels Lounge/studio by Nobody: 11:46pm On Sep 10, 2014
Worship is any song to glorify God...
But we have fast and Slow song..
We have Praise- A subset of Worship..
But praise deals with a lot of cymbals.and kicks..Drumming more than the normal slow songs.

I think I am more into Praise(s)
