My colleague walked into the office and told a story of how she came out of the market and opened her car boot only to discover that she had just had access to another person's "end if discussion". As she spoke, another colleague told the story of how a man drove off in another person's "big light" Toyota camry only to discover 10 minutes into his journey that he had just "stolen" a car. He drove back and found his car still parked and a crowd gathered discussing the theft. In both cases the cars were packed close to the mistaken ones and the colours identical. Nairalanders, is this possible? |

Very possible. I parked my Honda civic iv-tec 08, besides my pharmacy in Apapa.. There was another honda civic, same specs parked in front of me.. While I was chilling outside of the pharmacy with a visitor, someone suddenly stepped forward gallantly, opened my civic from the driver's side and sat comfortably inside the vehicle, about to insert a key into the ignition.. At first I thought I was dreaming, cos my car keys were in my pocket. I suddenly screamed at the fellow, asking him what he was trying to do.. Neighbors gathered, and the gentle man stepped out, and was confused too.. It was that moment he realized that his car was Parked up front. He apologized, got into his car and drove off.. Till date I can't park my civic in a public place.. So so horrendous.. 6 Likes |

Most hondas up to 2001 had that lock issue. |

Gosh that is scary, I don't think Toyotas (Camry) after 2002 have this issue. I recall doing the same thing on a mid 2000s Camry a few years ago because it was the same colour and identical twin of my Camry that I made a mistake. It did not work. I realised then that I was attempting to open the door on the wrong car. 2 Likes |

For the Honda EOD, it is not possible except the chip has been removed. For the Camry, very possible. |

If over a 4 year period you make a million cars how many combination of keys do you think they have no to talk of models using g the same key type It actually does happen. 2 Likes |

lonelydora: For the Honda EOD, it is not possible except the chip has been removed. For the Camry, very possible. She said her friend opened the boot. The key may open boot, door and even the ignition but the engine wont start anyways, because it has an immobilizer. Also keyless entry will not work. 4 Likes |

As a Car Key specialist Toyota from 19** - 2004 are vulnerable to keys. BOTH Key and Remote. Honda Civic/city/accord 19** - 2005 are also vulnerable to to keys BOTH key and remote. Most Cars on importing they have the sensor of the car inside the car. Best is change your Remote key. 1 Like |

Not just Honda and Toyota. I have noticed this on mazda since 2003. The key to a Madza E2000 bus opened and drove a mazda 626 (94 model). |

FiftyFifty: One more reason I respect Peugeot.... E see! This came from someone else that have tested, confirmed & believed. Anyway, For BSI Peugeot owners, no remote key other than the authentic one with you can open your car doors via central lock, unless you installed and use aftermarket one. Also I gathered from Peugeot mechanics recently that if you insert a wrong key in Peugeot car doors, it will enter, but will spin 360 degrees continuously and the door will never open. They maybe right or wrong. I have not tried it. But you all can go out there and give it a trial, if you want to. So far, Peugeot is one of the few best secured cars in the world.
