Fellow Nigerians, Ebola virus don enter Lagos. Read the following please and share with your friends.

1. Ebola virus disease is caused by ebola virus which causes extremely severe haemorrhagic fever in humans and other primates.

2. The symptoms start 3-21 days after contracting the virus and these include: headache, muscle pain, vomitting, throat pain, nausea , diarrhoea, and in some cases, bleeding and reduced capacity of the liver and kidneys to work.

3. A person can get the disease by getting in contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an a bat, monkey or other infected animal.

4. The disease spreads rapidly from person to person and males who survive the infection can transmit it via sexual intercourse. This virus is highly contagious and infectious.

5. As at now, there is no cure for ebola virus disease and it kills up to 90% of those infected. There is also no vaccine right now. Thus, prevention is very important.

6. How do you prevent yourself? Stay away from areas of outbreak and notify health officials to quarantine someone who has been diagnosed with the disease.

7. Use all safety tips like gloves, goggles, face masks and the rest when you relate with those infected. This is particularly important for those who work in health institutions in areas of outbreaks.

8. DO NOT TOUCH THE DEAD BODIES OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE PATIENTS. THE CORPSES SHOULD BE DISPOSED OFF AND HANDLE STRICTLY ONLY BY TRAINED MEDICAL PERSONNEL.

9. DO NOT TOUCH PATIENTS or have any contact with them or their bodily secretions, materials or even their utensils. Infected people MUST BE QUARANTINED AND ISOLATED FROM THE GENERAL POPULATION. ADHERE STRICTLY TO THIS.

10. Stay away from bush meat and other wildlife. This is especially important for the lovers of bush meat or those who live in forest areas and depend on wildlife for protein. Tell your people in the villages, abules and igberikos.

11. It is possible for dogs and pigs to be infected. Watch out for symptoms.

12. If you are manifesting any of the signs and symptoms, or you have just travelled to an area of an outbreak in West Africa/sub-Saharan Africa, or you are in contact with such a person, please visit the nearest medical centre.
