My Experience with Mayorall PB.

I bought my Mayor source power bank on the 17th of October, 2014 from a local distributor of Mayorall Goods Enterprise at Ahmmadiyya, Abule-Egba, Lagos for 3500.

The power bank was at 57% charge when i bought it.
I expected a full charge of the power bank to charge my phone with a 1400mah battery for 6.86 times using a general mostly used calculation that a power bank with a capacity of 12000mah will output 12000 x 0.8 = 9600mah. Now dividing the capacity by 1400, i should have approximately 6.86 times charging from 0% to 100%. So at 57%, i quite expected the Powerbank to give me (57/100 x 9600)/1400 = 3.908 approx. 3.91times.

On usuage, the Powerbank charged my phone from 75% to 100% once and two complete charge from 0% to 100% totalling a 2.25 charge times which wasn't what i had in mind. # Anomaly 1

Charging the powerbank using a new original tecno charger with an output charger of 600ma, it took approx. 10 hours (from 09:54am to 07:50ish pm) from 0% to 64%.
On average that means it takes roughly 12mins 08 sec per percent charge. This wasn't in accordance to the 8 - 9 hours charge i expected. # Anomaly 2

I also discovered that the powerbank discharges randomly while still connected to a power source before it continues charging again. This happened about five times. # Anomaly 3

When using the powerbank, i also discovered that the rate at which it discharge doesn't follow a trend i.e it might take 15% to give a 30% boost to my battery, then takes around 27% for 80% boost. # Anomaly 4

I noted all these anomalies and since this was my first time of using a powerbank, i googled some questions lurking in my mind. Also, i made this anomalies known to Mayor and his response was fast, tactful and very helpful.

I was told my mayorall to use a charger with an output of 1.5A rather than the 600ma am using to get a faster charge time. I was also told i should have fully charged the Powerbank before usage( apologizing for the mistake of telling me to use it first before charging; i think it skipped his mind)

Mayor told me i could get a replacement which i told him i prefer. Since i bought it on friday, he told me about the three days return package. I told him i couldn't make it within those days and told him i will only be chanced and free on Thursday, we both agreed on thursday which was last week.

I had a replacement from the distributor i bought the PB from on thursday and everything went well and swiftly.

Due to my noted anomalies of the PowerBank and curiosity, i did some search on lithium ion, charge rate of a PB and a mobile charger, PB capacity, power and some other searches and found out some information i'd like to share as it explained why i had anomalies #1 and #2.

Using a powerbank with a capacity of 12000mah, the internal battery of the PB is usually at 3.7v. That means the total charge of the PB = 12000mah x 3.7v = 44400mWh (44.4Wh).

When the PB is used to charge products such as a smartphone for example, the output voltage is 5V, thus the total eletric charge is 44400/5V = 8880mah.

Two types of conversion occurs during a charging process using a PB.
First conversion occurs when the PB internal circuit converts the internal voltage of 3.7V to 5V, consuming some power in the process and reduces its efficiency..
Second conversion occurs when the phone internal circuits converts the 5V back to 3.7V, this consume some power and further reduces the efficiency to around 80%.

So based on the total charge of the PB which is 8880mah and the fact that efficiency isn't 100%.
We have 8880 x 0.8 = 7104mah. This is exactly the capacity of the PB after all these conversions, power consumption and heat loss.

Since i use a 1400mah battery, total time charge = 7104/1400 = 5.074 times.
So a complete charge of my phone will take 100/5.074 = 19.708% from the PB.

Also a charger with an output of lets say 500mA wont give out all the 500mA, due to heat loss and efficiency not 100% , the charger gives roughly 500 - 22% (+/- 3%) = 400mA - 375mA.

So to charge a PB that requires it's advisable to use roughly 1.2A to 1.5A so that after the heat loss, we still have rougly 1A .

Also the belief that a charger with an higher output known as rapid charger or fast charger will only charge a device to some extent. New devices uses a protection inbuilt circuit that limits the current entering the device.

Most battery, phone, and other gadgets manufacturers include a protection circuit to protect the battery and make it durable. Mayor Source battery make use of this protection circuits according to my tests.(Assumption).

For example, a charger with 700mA will charge a little bit faster than a charger with an output of 400mA if the device input current max is 1A or higher. But a 2A output charger will take the same time as a 1.8A or 1.5A output charger as the device can only collect a max of 1A.

With all these info, i charged my PB from 91% to 100% from 8am to around 09:30am and trickle charge it till 11:30am using a 2A charger.
I used it to charge my PB once and it went from 100% to 81% i.e. 19% for a complete charge which was in accordance with my estimates i mentioned.

The PB is working well and charges fast and i have been using my phone since 7:30am today after charging it with my PB ( The charge on my phone tend to last longer when using it than using a generator)

N.B : Sorry for the long write up. my hand sef don dey pain me as i dey use a phone type this.
P.S; Tired to starting proof reading and editing any grammatical error in the write up, so endure

My Review

Pros
The customer service before and after purchase is superb.
The Power bank is good and work well as expected.
I love the flashlight
The digital display is really consumer friendly and it was what i used in my quest for getting some information, way more better than led indicator.
It charges my phone well and beats some charger when it comes to completing a charging cycle
My phone battery lasts longer compared to using a mobile charger on a generator when using Mayorall PB.
It's just too lovely and i like it's design; very simple

Cons

No support attachment for the PB, so i have too put it my pocket and some pocket ain't deep enough.
A bit heavy but what do u expect from a 12000mah capacity PB; and compared to some PB i checked lately with the same capacity, it's quite alright and weigh less.

Got mine today and tested it already. unfortunately, i followed me Mayorall's (mistaken) instruction of draining the battery before charging (as i read from previous comments) it the 1st time before reading @micynute94 review just now. i hope that doesn't affect the performance.
Anyway, this is my initial however brief review:
i used the power bank to charge my infinix zero while using the phone, non stop. i know that to get a faster charge, i should turn off data or switch it off, but i didnt want to do that at that time this resulted in slow charging at a rate of approx. 1% in 4-5 mins using the 1A port. The 2A port was surprisingly slower. i dont understand why that is but i also noticed that using a 1.5A charger on the phone was also a bit slower than the 1A charger i normally use with it. i am guessing that is the max input for the battery.

Right now, i am recharging the PB and timing it to know how long it will take to fully charge.

but i have full confidence in the powerbank and i also appreciate mr Mayorall's efforts to get the powerbank delivered to me in shagamu despite some difficulties. i hope our future transactions will be much smoother. Thanx boss.
