Hello there to all MACINTOCH USERS & EXPERTS.
I have a macintoch(10.4.11), I just hooked up with multilinks nigeria in my effort to get connected online in school but I have not been able to connect.
What do I need to do, which program do I need to run, or what software do I need to get, or where(i.e expert) do I need to go to for help.
Soonest hearing from you guys.
Luv u all.
macLarry.

you need to have os x drivers for your multilinks modem, otherwise install windows on bootcamp or a virtual machine (theres a thread on that here) and install the drivers on windows if you cant get a mac version.

Dear Ex Inferis,

Thank you grin.
I received you response to my enquiry, but I don't know which of os x drivers you are talking about., pls what is the names of these drivers, and where do I download the drivers.
And I don't even know how to install these drivers when I get them.
Which caple do I use to connect the multilinks modem.

Having said that, I wanted to let you know that I had tried installing windows on bootcamp/ a virtual machine but this crashed my hard disk that I had to purchase another one recently: so I wouldn't go for this one, I would rather try to get os x drivers on the multilinks modem.

Soonest hearing from you.

Thank you once again.

installing windows on a virtual machine shouldnt crash your harddisk because the partition being used is a virtual one. try moving the virtual disk image from your home folder to your desktop. also, bootcamp shoulnt crash your machine too since it has built in partitioner to partion your hard disk away from your mac installation (note that you cannot install windows on a powerPC machine using bootcamp).

i cant imagine why both virtual machines and bootcamp are crashing your box. perhaps you should run system update first.

as for the drivers, you need to check the website of the modem manufacturer for os x drivers. failing that, google online for kext binaries for the particular modem and if found place them here: /System/Libraries/Extensions.

im not too good with kexts, so best advice is to update OS X via System update and look for drivers from the manufacturer.

ps: Kexts mean Kernel Extensions and are essentially binary wrappers that function as drivers, just type the name/model of the modem in google and try your luck.

by the way, if your crashing problem still persists, try fixing the hard disk. go to Applications/Utilities/Disk utility

select the first aid tab and click Permissions, then click Repair. you occasionally need to repair permissions especially when you are encountering abnormal behaviour, slow downs, hangups, etc. the permissions of intalled apps get screwed over time and thus need to be repaired. after that, select Repair (not under permissions this time) to fix all and any file system wahala.

@ Ex_Inferix,

pls can i have your yahoo messenger id, i need to chat with you, mine is mooiwafx, thanks.
Re: Macintoch Users & Experts. by ExInferis(m): 5:08pm On Oct 21, 2008
im a bit reluctant to give my Yahoo ID because i did before and whenever i log in i see all sorts of people asking to be added up, and when i do add some of them up they turn out to be e-vangelists (as in electronic evangelists), snake oil salesmen, Viagra marketers and get-rich-quick spammers/scammers,.

kindly post whatever problem you are having and i guarantee you i will do my best to assist, where i cant someone else who knows better will and there are lots of them here. this has the added benefit of being helpful to anyone having similar problems

cheers.

thanks, i perfectly understood your fears.

my challenge is my brother has a mac os apple pc. it was brought from overseas with logon password and this has resctricted access into the system.
I'd appreciate it if you could guide me on how to remove the password or how to reload the os.
thanks.
Re: Macintoch Users & Experts. by ExInferis(m): 11:39am On Oct 23, 2008
you really have only 2 options:

1. boot from the Mac OS X CD and select RESET PASSWORD.

2. reinstall OS X by booting from the CD and following the prompts.

ps: kindly let us know the OS X version you use (i.e 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5)
Re: Macintoch Users & Experts. by Nobody: 5:38am On Oct 26, 2008
@Ex_inferis,

Welcome to macworld. I would stat by asking you the type of multilinks phone u are using. Is it the tableset or the handset? i have the settings for both. If you are using Handset (preferred choice) make sure u have a prolific cable ready. Pls make sure the cable is prolific (DKU 5). u can get it in computer village or any other place for 1k ; it is very common. then send a mail to me; i will send the settings to ya. You can also check my profile ( check my recent posts ) for the settings. bye
