Concerned Nigerian Starts Online Petition Against NMA and Nigerian Doctors
Nigerian Doctors embarked on a strike action on 1st July 2014 despite the federal governments successive intervention meetings and dialogue including the one of 15 hours deliberation (4pm to 6:30am) on 25th and 26th June 2014, 3rd, 14th and 21st July, where reasonable conclusions were reached on each demand which were signed by both parties.
The meeting of 21st July was supposed to last for 30minutes but NMA prolonged it for another demand, by impunity, for a payment on relativity that was not provided for in the 2014 budget which they insist must be paid "NOW"By embarking on an indefinite and sudden Strike action, the NMA has reneged on its code of medical ethics (2004) for medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria which states in part "grin" on IMPROPER RELATIONSHIP WITH COLLEAGUES AND PATIENTS under section 45 on RIGHT TO WITHDRAW SERVICE that:"it would be permissible for a doctor to withdraw his service inpursuit of his rights under labor laws of the federal republic of Nigeria, provided that any doctor wishing to take that course of action must have
MADE SATISFACTORY ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CONTINUING CARE OF HIS PATIENTS AND MUST HAVE GIVEN ADEQUATE NOTICE OF HIS INTENTION TO THESE PATIENTS"In embarking on withdrawal of services under any circumstance, a doctor must conduct himself in such a manner as to avoid suffering and loss of life for the helpless patients who had not CONTRIBUTED to the dissatisfaction which has made the withdrawal of service necessaryThat the NMA withdrew its services on the same day that abuja was bombed by insurgents at the Emab plaza is unfair to Nigerians.
That in the face of a possible Ebola outbreak, the NMA has chosen to abandon Nigerians and taunt us to be at the mercy of JOHESU "Consultants" is wicked. Discharging patients suddenly and with no arrangements for continuity of care as stated in the MDPN code of ethics is condemnable As far as i am concerned, without prima facia, the strike by Nigerian Doctors is worse than the mayhem unleased on us by the dreaded terrorist group boko haram. Fellow Nigerians, We live in an amazing time, when the opportunity to make a difference is greater than ever before.
Technology has made us more connected than ever. We can make the Nigerian Medical Association and Nigerian Doctors more responsive and accountable.www.change.com accelerates this dramatic shift – by making it easier to make a difference, and by inspiring everyone to discover what's possible when they stand up and speak out. if this petition works and the strike is called off, will another petition be submitted when another strike starts again? wouldn't it be better getting to the root of the problem rather than cutting the weed at the stem?
i recall an online petition that was started when a governor married an underaged girl or when a pastor slapped a woman as well as when 20bn dollars got missing. what happened to such petitions?
