It takes a considerable amount of money to pay for a movie ticket these days, but let’s think about the copious spending people behind-the-scenes had to do to get their movie on the big screen in the first place? The cast and crew not only put in a lot of effort into making their movie a hit, but they also put in a lot of money to make their audience’s viewing experience is worth the dough they’re putting in. Here are ten of the most expensive movies made ever. You may recognize a lot, or even all of these! TOP 10 MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIES FILMED.. 1. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: At World’s End, $332 million The third film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series came out in 2007 and is still is the most expensive movie ever made. We’re still trying to figure out if it was Orlando Bloom’s hotness, Johnny Depp’s IDGAF attitude, or Keira Knightly’s badass-ness. 2. TITANIC, $286 million Academy Award-winning director James Cameron’s beloved 1997 epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet was a film that was based on the historic 1912 disaster when the real Titanic ship sank. The movie won the hearts of many people of all ages. To this day, many will stare at you in shock if you say you haven’t seen Titanic. 3, AVATAR, $280 million Another James Cameron winner, the 2009 sci-fi film starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana averaged nearly $300 million. The Chicago Sun- Times adequately reported, “Once again, [Cameron] has silenced the doubters by simply delivering an extraordinary film. There is still at least one man in Hollywood who knows how to spend $250 million, or was it $300 million, wisely.” -Roger Ebert. Agreed. 4. TANGLED, $260 million The charming 2010 Disney film that portrayed the tale of Rapunzel and her prince, Flynn, on their wild adventure that in the end taught young audiences about the importance of sacrifice and that beauty isn’t about what’s on the outside. It’s about compassion, loyalty, strength, and above all, love. 5. SPIDER-MAN 3, $258 million The 2007 Marvel Entertainment superhero film starred Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco. It was their final film appearance in the series, but they definitely made it count. Now we have the new The Amazing Spider-Man with real- life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (yes, their chemistry is adorable!) 6. Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince, $250 million The 2009 fantasy film follows the young, powerful wizard Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) through his sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, when he finds a book that is the property of “the Half-Blood Prince”, and sets off on a quest to discover who this prince is. The Harry Potter films have held a place in many fans’ hearts, young and old, so it’s no surprise that J.K. Rowling’s series spent a good deal to keep up their reputation as one of the best series of all time. 7. John Carter, $250 million The 2012 sci-fi action film is about a Civil war veteran on Mars who finds himself a prisoner to aliens and while escaping, ends up committing himself to save a princess. Seems pretty legit. 8. King Kong, $243 million The 2005 remake of the 1933 film went bananas on spending. The movie kept the same era, the ’30′s, and followed the journey of an “overly ambitious” filmmaker and his cast who went to Skull Island, captured the massive gorilla Kong, brought back to NYC, and sadly destruction ensued. A lot of work went into recreating this classic Merian C. Cooper jungle film. 9. The Chronicles of Narnia, $225 million The C.S. Lewis story was brought to life successfully, totaling over $1 billion dollars in the box office for the three films. It wasn’t easy to create the films at first-Lewis never sold the film rights to his Narnia series, but after Lewis’ stepson and co-producer of the film Douglas Gresham saw what the computer-generated imagery (CGI) for the animals would look like, the approval was given, and the films became a huge success. 10. The Avengers, $220 million Marvel Entertainment went above and beyond expectations with the 2o12 superhero action film that presented the Avengers, a team made up of six incredible superheroes who save the world from catastrophe altogether despite risky circumstances. They not only protected millions of people, but they earned the respect of millions of viewers. Spending for a good cause really does save the day. |
