Smoking Is Not A Sin. Is It? by englishmart(m): 2:16pm On Aug 03, 2014
I don't smoke really.
But I've gone round the scripture.
I've made every research towards ensuing I find something sinful about smoking but I seem not to find anything sinful about smoking.
My conclusion is that smoking is not a sin

So what do you think?

The Bible did not anticipate cigarettes, so did not make provisions for it. However the conservatives (who know themselves by their wild dislike for anything modern) bent a couple of bible passages from their original intent to cover cigarettes which Bible did not talk about.

Your body is the God's temple. By smoking you are putting your health at risk, and as well destroying the temple of God. Dishonoring God is a sin.

Smoking weed is sinful.
Look what it did to some here.

the Political section.
Sounds like some kind of brain damage to
me... undecided

1 Cor 6:19-20 (NIV) Do you not know that your
body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in
you, whom you have received from God? You
are not your own; you were bought at a price.
Therefore honour God with your body.

1 Cor 3:16-17 (NIV) Don't you know that you
yourselves are God's temple and that God's
Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's
temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple
is sacred, and you are that temple.

Ask yourself, what are the things that can destroy your body which is the temple of God?
List them, definitely smoking is will be among them.
Therefore,it is a sin.

A spirit-filled child of God will never give it a second thought. Just like boozing and sniffing other hard drugs, it intoxicates but usually not as strong as others. You can misbehave when you become high. Certain things will become abominable to you if the Holy Spirit dwells in you. Then the Bible would not have to condemn it before your spirit does.

I can't remember anywhere in the Bible where Jesus sniffed or smoked tobacco or any other leave to become high. The Holy Spirit should be our intoxicant.

I was talking about scriptural back-ups that condemn smoking.
If not, I will refuse to call it a sin

What you (or anyone) call(s) it matters nothing. What matters is God's Word. Suffice me to say that not everything that is sinful has been categorically written down in God's Word. In John 21:25 we're told '...that if all the other events in Jesus' life were written, the world could hardly contain the books!' So waiting for a thing to be written or mentioned specifically before you obey might not happen. That said each human has a conscience. Those that did wrong without the Bible we are told in Romans 2:14 'He will punish the heathen when they sin even though they never had God's written laws, for down in their hearts they know right from wrong. God's laws are written within them; their own conscience accuses them or sometimes excuses them.' If those that didn't have the Bible at all wouldn't have an excuse how much more would we? Above that, every child of God has a personal relationship with God. As we cultivate this relationship we hear His voice clearly which will never contradict His written Word but would rather clarify and explain it. Finally, I Thess 5:22 says 'Keep away from every kind of evil' What would you define the word 'evil' as? It's exhaustive my dear and covers sins named and unnamed .

The only part of Scripture that I find relating to that is:

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Whether or not you choose to call it a sin, one thing smoking is though... is deadly! I thank God I stopped.

I don't smoke but I will say smoking is not a sin. Now tell me, before it was discovered that smoking poses a health hazard was it a sin then? If smoking is a sin, then football is a sin cos the body is the temple of God but you are using it to dive anyhow on the floor, exposing yourself to be kicked and sustaining injuries. Sugar is not good for the body yet we still take sugar. I guess that's a sin too. Abeg make una leave smokers make dem live their lives. Na God create tobacco and marijuana.

Is it sinful to take alcohol?
it's complicated kind of.

Question: "What does the Bible say about
drinking alcohol / wine? Is it a sin for a Christian
to drink alcohol / wine?"
Answer:

Scripture has much to say regarding the
drinking of alcohol (Leviticus 10:9; Numbers 6:3;
Deuteronomy 29:6; Judges 13:4, 7, 14; Proverbs 20:1;
31:4; Isaiah 5:11, 22; 24:9; 28:7; 29:9; 56:12). However,
Scripture does not necessarily forbid a Christian
from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink
containing alcohol. In fact, some Scriptures discuss
alcohol in positive terms. Ecclesiastes 9:7 instructs,
“Drink your wine with a merry heart.” Psalm
104:14-15 states that God gives wine “that makes glad
the heart of men.” Amos 9:14 discusses drinking wine
from your own vineyard as a sign of God’s blessing.
Isaiah 55:1 encourages, “Yes, come buy wine and
milk…”
What God commands Christians regarding alcohol is
to avoid drunkenness ( Ephesians 5:18). The Bible
condemns drunkenness and its effects (Proverbs
23:29-35). Christians are also commanded to not
allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything (1
Corinthians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:19). Drinking alcohol in
excess is undeniably addictive. Scripture also forbids
a Christian from doing anything that might offend
other Christians or encourage them to sin against
their conscience ( 1 Corinthians 8:9-13). In light of
these principles, it would be extremely difficult for
any Christian to say he is drinking alcohol in excess
to the glory of God
