weekend box office record in Nigeria. The
record came from showing the movie in 15
cinemas across Nigeria in its first 3 days,
with Lagos cinemas topping the charts.
‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is expected to also
break the record of the highest grossing
movie in Nigeria, being the country of the
author of the book, and the director and
executive producers of the movie.
Half of a Yellow Sun is at the number one
spot in Nigerian cinemas, ahead of Marvel
Studio’s ‘Guardian of Galaxy’. The movie
has been able to surpass other box office
trailblazers like Last Flight to Abuja
(N8.35Million), Phone Swap (N3.72Million),
Maami (N3.30Million), and The Return of
Jennifer (N10Million).
According to Mr. Kene Mkparu C.E.O of
FilmOne Distribution, the distributors of the
movie “we have always maintained that
the success of ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is

Not surprised a bit that the movie is scoring big. Read it somewhere on nairaland about how bad the movie is but then the author of such post failed to realize that its not about the war but a story of love during the war. It's a well adapted movie.

Compare Half of a Yellow Sun with a movies of similar budget, like Tsotsi, Hotel Rwanda, The Last King of Scotland etc

In the 'context' of things I don't think it's an unfair comparison... the article is talking about 'Nigerian films at Nigerian cinemas and their 'domestic' performance' which is actually important information. And I'm pretty sure the other films mentioned didn't have the 'same' budget.

All am saying is that you expect the movie to smash all the box record because it had an unfair advantage over the other movies,

Its like comparing the movie Jesus of Nazareth to Mel Gibson's Passion of Christ! One could only go straight to DVD then to the TV but the other smashed records at the cinemas, why? Because of its investment, marketing, directing, producing, casts, cinematigraphy, costume, sound editing, etc and this also gave it an advantage over movies that were handled by amateurs

I loved the movie. humble and brilliant. for a nigerian, it evokes comlex emotions.

Please are there Nollywood movies like this?
