u wont regret it when u venture into snail farming-its highly lucrative and potential snail farmers must be very passionate and patient in dz kind of venture- a giant african snail (7inch) is sold for N250 at farmgate price: d demand for snail meat is insatiable. Hotels> eateries>open market>The one u saw at ur backyard is still d one-(but they never make it through as many are seized by predators/harsh weather changes-eg;draught and floods) cuz it will take them 2-3yrs to attain that marketable size depending on ur feeding and care for them and start laying cluster of eggs(baby fulicus) at dia first 1yr: d fact is a year old snail can produce 300-500eggs occasionally through out d its first year:for more info and enquiries visist my free topics and contents at www.agricnetwork.com yeah, dont go round d bush picking snails; it is not advisable- just start with a few and grow and mutiply within ur farm over time-and most importantly, clients will get to see that mature snails from ur farm taste delicious compare to some bush miniature snails

10k! Though its still something worth starting with after considering these issues:

1a. Do u already have a farm land (though u can still use cage i.e ur own idea of tyre confinment bcoz i regard this method has primitive it can sometimes be hazardous to the snail's health. to be candid with u open ground is d best method).

1b. If u have a farmland have u consider setting it up (I knw many pple will mislead u on this that the setup is very easy u only need a little amount to do this) I can give u an estimation abt dis.

2. Getting your snail for breeding: how much snails do you consider starting with and also their prolific nature? Coz u can't jst get anyhow snails then expect a positive yield.
3. Though d money spend on feeding is very minimal considering d naturally available food.
4. Have you consider the pest and disease control?
5. Jst telling you that if you've already put all these things into place then you are good to go @least with d 10k.

Truely, Snail farming is very lucrative bt u must put somethings into place so u won't enter it and @d same time run out if it.

Hmnn, @ Op:

My observations shows that you are risk averse. All these questions for a 10k investment?
Pardon my bad manners please but I think you need are too serious for snail farming because:

1 it is a business that doesn't give you fast yield.

2 your envirnment determines whether you can do the business or not.( For example, if you live in densely populated area, you will have problem of pilfry(stealing of your snails)

3 your capital is very small but you can still start with this and increase later.

4 if you use old tyres as your housing unit, you will be prune to insect pest and slug invasion. * I suffered this myself*

5 your market depeNds on your environment and your price depends on your customers. For example the price you will sell your snails to an asthma patient that wants to use if to make drug will be different from the price you will give an hotelier or the price you will give a retailer.

6 what you feed your snails depends on your pocket and knowledge.

7. Snailry business is like "kalokalo" and if you are "this serious", I think you need to start learning it "like play like play" if not, your believe in computer farmers will not help you because life "on the field" is very different from book farming.

Sincerely,

The Unbeatable.
