No, I didn't say black has low mortality. I said that blacks lay slower over a longer period of time than browns. They have higher body weight and eat more than browns.

Pls guys how many bags of feed would be enough to train 50 broilers(for meat production) from birth to four weeks.

Anyway,with regards to ur problem,i tink u need to carry out litle vaccination or probably may b d feed is not quality enough to meet with there demand for egg production. May be u try layers mash from viatlite feed mill production.becose sometime d compostion of the feeds varries.

neyur is very right & correct. Skool cant teach u everytin_ma'am/@NEYUR, u are right abt these white birds with comb that lay white eggs and are to be called pullets. Yeah they are the white leghorn layer breed- they lay up to 280eggs per year n their eggs are very large white eggs but they do not fair well on this very part of the world. From the look of things only europe & US rear them on commercial terms mostly.

Are you serious that you sent a manager on a training for just 40 pullets. That must b a joke.
Nevertheless you are expexted to get a crate of 30pcs of egg daily. So per bag for 5 days you shld have #3,500 -#2,300 = #1,200.
You can deduct the overhead from the gross profit.

Even with 40 birds u shld nt run @ a loss
From all d responses u av gotten, no one has told u to reduce d amount of feed u give. There are feeding schedules for birds.
On the average, 220- 240 birds shld eat 1 bag of 25kg @ peak. Depending on the temperature of the enviroment. Birds dnt eat same ration all year round. At times more at times lower.
So how can u feed 40 birds with 1 bag? For the spp of birds, even if they are vultures.
Ur 40 birds shld be taking about 4kg of feeds daily
Also ur production is way too low. U shld be getting atleast a crate daily. There a few factors u need to check. Bring in a dvm to check ur birds. U need to put in mind that running such a small farm, u need to be detailed about everything and precision shld be ur watchword

Am not yet into poultry farming, but with all I have read on this site from the beginning, I will advise you stick with zatech, don't use obasanjo farms, it's been nothing but bad tales

The problem here is not feed management. The problem is poor egg production. How can 40 pullets be producing 3 crates in 5 days? That is too poor sir.Your manager did not get the right training.You get it free from the 1st signature below if you can read all the posts.If you let me know the age of the birds and their vaccine plan, and some details, i will tell you what the problem is.

I may not be able to write out all you need now but let start with this-
1. The first thing you will never hear about starting a poultry farm is security. Yes security. You are going into a business where your projections are based on the number of eggs for a period of time with running cost synced with you daily production. I tell client this- You have to secure you investment. Once you do not have this in place, you are gambling. By security, this means prevent any lose/reduction in expected output. Clearing a parameter of about 4meters around your pen house will also work for the snake issue. Too much of chemical control might affect your birds, so your approach of biological control (planting of tobacco leaf) and what i explained earlier might control abit. Remember must of the tobacco plant are hybrid, not as strong as the local once of those days-Please take note. Mechanical control in form of traps are also effective.

2. Know the breed of your birds. All breeds birds have specific strength and weakness, all you need to know is the best breed for what you desire and get the manual for the breed and follow religiously to the letter all you have in it.(In case you did not hear me right, all breed of birds have a manual which has all you need to know in it- feeding ratio, FCR(Feed Conversion Ratio), weight gain per week, water consumption etc.

As regards what you explained earlier on your birds, black birds are not always the best in terms of laying but they have good body weight when it comes to selling end of lay birds. Black birds usually have more issues with heat stress and that affect their productivity. Though I usually don't like recommendations online but Isa Brown and Hyline breeds (usually referred to as brown birds) are not bad at all. They may not give you the best of body weight when they are at their end of lay but they know their business in laying of eggs if well manage.

normally 100 birds will eat half bag of feed a day. So 40 shld consume less than 6kg that's quarter bag. U shld also be seeing more than 3crates in 5days if they are all laying. So I advice u concentrate on increasing d number of eggs....give them d powders multivamin and also gve them extra light from 4am to 7:30am. After 2weeks u repeat d multivitamin again...u will get more egg with them feeding on same quantity of feed.
