Nigeria 2 – 1 England: Falconets Reaches Quarter Finals by lillaowow(m): 9:01am On Aug 14, 2014 |
Nigeria’s women national team, the Falconets on Thursday defeated England 2-1 in their last Group C game of the 2014 FIFA u-20 World Cup in Canada. England went in front in the 5th minute of the game through striker Nikita Parris who beat an offside trap but Loveth Ayila equalised for Nigeria in the 41st minute when she produced a lovely skill and powerful shot to march that England’s keeper Elizabeth Durack failed to hold firmly allowing the ball to go through her hands. Asisat Oshoala made it 2-1 for Nigeria in the 58th minute when she converted a penalty after being fouled. Incidentally England could not score the penalty awarded them earlier though the referee; Qin Liang’s call was questionable. http://completesportsnigeria.com/falconets-reaches-quarter-finals-beat-england/

I watched the match. The girls played well, they had chances of scoring more goals though. The officiating wasn't too good. England's penalty was a wrong call. The keeper (chiichii) already trapped the ball. Even before the england striker got to her. Also there could have been an equalizer from an offside at the last minute of the game. Overall, Nigeria played well. Number 11 (for Nigeria) was introduced in the 2nd half. She is cute, moderate althletic body and was fantastic with the ball. I do hope the girls bring the cup home. God bless Naija. And special thanks to GTV, ghana for broadcasting the match. |
