NFF president Aminu Maigari has cleared the air by saying the 23 players picked for next month’s AFCON qualifiers were done by coach Stephen Keshi. Keshi has yet to agree a new contract with the NFF after his initial deal elapsed after the recent World Cup in Brazil. Negotiations are on-going between the coach and his employers, but with the qualifiers against Congo and South Africa just around the corner, it was expedient to move ahead with preparations for the matches fixed for September 6 and 10. "We understand the importance having the contract of Keshi resolved," the NFF president told AfricanFootball.com "I want to assure Nigerians that we would soon be done with talks with the coach. At least you see he has sent us a list. This means that we are making progress. "We have mandated the secretariat to quickly conclude with the coach so he can resume because we have crucial games next month."
