Ogun state govt shuts gate of Olabisi Onabanjo University by Nobody: 7:44pm On Aug 23, 2014
The ogun state govt has shut down the gates of olabisi onanbanjo university till further notice;
The govt in a speech signed by the state secatery claimed that the students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University are trying to disturb the peace of the entire state through its agitation for the reduction of the present tuition fee being paid by the students.
With this development made by the ogun state govt;what do we think would be the next move that would be made by the OOUTIES?.

Amosun Ordered The Arrest Of OOU and other Ogun State Student Leaders
In his desperate moves to prevent the reoccurrence of the embarrassing protests of Ogun state students happening again on Monday 25th of August, Governor Amosun has ordered for the arrest of the following student leaders wherever they are found in the state.
They are:

1. Com. Socialist (sug president),

2. Seliat (sug vp),

3. Com. James ( oou Cdhr coordinator),

4. Com. Governor (Chairman, Fee Reduction Committee),

5. Com. Awo (Director, Mobilization NANS),

6. Com. Kmoney (NAOSS Presidential Aspirant),

7. Com. Korea (Cdhr comrade)

8. COM DADA AYODEJI

9. COM SAHEED SIKIRU DEP SENATE PRESIDENT AND,

10. COM FALOLA AHMED NANS CHAIRMAN OGUN STATE

Six days ago when over 3,000 students of OOU, Ago Iwoye and other schools in the state peacefully protested against the recent reduction in their tuition by the state government, Governor Amosun promised to look into their demands within one week and proper reduction will be announced after.
Amosun said he was hearing for the first time that the students are still in their 2013/14 academic session.
The demands of the students are; infrastructural development in their schools to justify the huge money they are paying. Secondly, the school fees reductions must be in tandem with the promise of the governor during campaigns.

Amosun pledged to peg the highest paid tuition in ogun state to N50,000 if elected into office. It's three years now and no reduction was done. Rather, the school fees in the state was increased by 100% and later reduced by 10%. Six months to election, Amosun announced an across the board reductions that made caricature of what he promised. Ogun state school fees are still the highest in the country.

Why is Amosun after the lives of these gallant students?
Why is Amosun reneging on his promise to look into their demand if all he planned was to get them all arrested and jailed?
Why is Amosun so silent on the statement credited to Odubela, his education commissioner, that called all the protesting students "BASTARDS from a poor upbringing"?
Finally, why is Amosun hellbent on setting ogun state on fire?
The last time the students protested in Abeokuta, over ten of them were hospitalised for one injury or the other. How many of ogun state youths will Amosun kill to retain his seat?
Who says the upcoming students protest on Monday plus Amosun's plan to kill all the students that show up in Abeokuta and the students Aluta spirit won't bring about the end of Amosun next week?
Where are the true leaders of ogun state? Prince Bola Ajibola, Baba Obasanjo, Pa Shonekan and others? Will they allow Amosun set ogun state on fire just because of power?
If Lagos can reduce tuition to N25,000, why can't ogun state make her's N50,000?

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS (NANUS).
PRESS RELEASE!!!

Sat. August 23, 2014.
*****NANUS REJECTSS THE CLOSURE OF OOU*****
Egalitarian greetings to our gallant and ever dogged comrades at home and in diaspora.
It is no more news that the Student Union leadership of Olabisi Onabanjo University OOU have been on the struggle for their school fees reduction for the past few months now. One will think that Ogun state Government will be considerate enough to have yielded to their demands, but reverse is the case.
Sen. Ibikunle Amosun has failed them twice. At first he promised to reduce their tuition fees to 50000 if he emerges as the governor of Ogun State. They came out en mass and gave him their mandate, hoping that he will do the needful, instead he failed them.
OOUites continued paying the obnoxious tuition fee for 3 years without complaint. Few months ago, they decided to make consultations and consolidation with the state government to remind them of their promise, and as this was not yielding any positive result, they were left with no other choice but to employ the last C of Aluta.
They went peacefully to Abeokuta last week to remind Governor Amosun of his promise to OOUites and he pleaded with them to give him a week to resolve the issue. One week is gone and Governor Amosun has ordered the closure of their citadel of learning for NO JUSTIFIED REASON. HE HAS FAILED THEM AGAIN.
Let me state it without fear that the National Association of Nigerian University Students NANUS is completely battle ready if the state government refuses to withdraw its orders. We completely reject the saturation of the university environment with security men as their is no reported case of riot in the premises. Failure to do this, then the state governor should be expecting a delegation of our gallant comrades from the four corners of the Nation.
VIVA ALUTA!!!

OOU SUG Emergency Press Release!

ILLEGAL PROSCRIPTION
The released news by the School Management as regards the proscription of OOU SUG is not coming as a suprise, because we saw it coming before now having informed the oouites and the public yesterday with the plan to put in place caretaker committee that will be puppet to government. However, the Union without any reserved apology, vehemently and unequivocally reject such illegal proscription, owning to the fact that the ground given by the management is baseless, unverifiable, falacious and consequently.

More so, the formulation of the Students' Union was by the entire Students of OOU in respect to their right of freedom of association which is entrenched in the constitution of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria, and so, the school singularly lacks the constitutional power to proscribe the Union. We, therefore implore our Students to disregard such information and be patient as the students' union government will inform you all of the next step. We must be rugged, calm, lawful and be resolute as we move on collectively.

Union President.

THE Education Rights Campaign, ERC, has condemned the closure of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, by the Ogun State government.

Recall that the school was shut down recently as a result of students’ protest to reduce hiked school fees to no more than N50,000.

In a press statement released to Vanguard Learning, the National Coordinator of the ERC, Mr. Hassan Soweto said: “We are equally opposed to the militarisation of the campus by the state government which was meant to demobilise the mass of students from organising further planned mass actions against the fee hike.
We demand the immediate reopening of the university and the meeting of all demands of students for substantial reduction in their hiked fees and improved funding of the university.

The real reason the state government closed down the university is to avoid meeting the demands of students for substantial reduction in their hiked fees to an amount not higher than N50,000. To achieve this, the state government is trying to criminalize the students and prepare the ground for police arrests and other forms of victimisation.

We would like to remind the Ogun State Police Command that this is a democracy and the use of police to harrass students and ordinary Nigerians fighting for their legitimate right will not be tolerated.
The ERC shall resist attempts by the Police to arrest, detain or victimise OOU students and their leaders in any way.”
The ERC opined that “the impression being deliberately created that students are violent is not true.
Some weeks ago, the students protested peacefully to the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta. The first day of the protest, some hoodlums attacked the students while the police watched.
The next day, the police fired tear gas at the students, arrested, slapped and brutalised the Vice-President of the Students Union, Seliat Ogunbiyi.
Student leaders
It was only when it became clear that the use of violence would not disperse the students that Governor Amosun came down to discuss with the students.
At the end of the parley, the Governor asked for a few days after which he would invite the student leaders to discuss how to resolve the issues. The students promptly dispersed and went back to their campus to await the Governor.

If the students were really violent and could cause breakdown of law and order, would it have been possible for the Governor to meet and parley with them?”
Continuing, Soweto said: “We hold that the forced closure of OOU is a direct attack on the democratic rights of the students. We call on the students to remain resolute and dogged in spite of all these attacks.
We demand the reversal of the closure of the university and for the Ibikunle Amosun regime to meet the demands of the students. We call on the leadership of the students’ union in the university to provide virile leadership to the students by organising mass meetings of students in main cities such as Abeokuta, Ago Iwoye, Ijebu-Ode and Lagos where the students are concentrated.
It is only by this approach that practical activities such as mass occupations and protests can be undertaken.
It is equally through this approach that the struggle for the total reversal of the fee hike can be achieved.”

Wow!.... Just watched the repeat of yesterday's Sunrisedaily on channels this morning from around 2am to 3:10a.m where our able and rugged no1 'IFADE OLUSEGUN a.k.a Socialist was present discussing the current situation of the school.
Well, It's such a pity the government is neglecting a very vital aspect of its ship.
The government which was re-presented by the commissioner of education Ogun state through a studio call told uncontrolled lies up to the extent he started saying rubbish.
I got angry at some point when the commissioner started talking about protest;concluding it was immature;then saying when we get back to our senses, then the govt would call for a meeting to re-open the school. I just wonder if our present ogun state governmental personal attended a university. Students are agitating for a reduction in tuition fee and you call that 'uncalled for' with the present nonchalant attitude of the Ogun state government towards the tuition fee. The commissioner tried including a factor that lead to our protest as political but due to time, there was no emphasis at all on it;we had planned the protest, sat for meetings with the government on this issue deliberating on what can be afforded by the students before the announcement of the unappealing reduction of tuition fees across the state was made. The school fell at a nonpluse at this unwanted dirty improvement. We took to the street at the lead of our able and stable President Socialist. We stomped governmental house with an intention to have a peaceful protest but the government in a very shameful act hired the labour of some unceremonious visitors to attack us on our way, still yet, we had a peaceful protest;the governor later attended to us after some hours of standing at the gate saying he's unaware the school is still in her first semester that the government in his lead should be given 1 week. At the end of the week,"Wetin we c"? Closure of school due to security reasons! Are you kidding me?? No! That was the outcome of the week we gave him!. Such a shame.
After so many untrue facts said by the commissioner of education in the state at channels, IFADE OLUSEGUN a.k.a socialist was there not for justification but to uncover the truth that was being told as a lie. Aluta Continua! Struggle continues... May GOD help us.
Massive.
