Uyocalyaxis can authoritatively report now that at least one person has been quarantined and a doctor has been placed under surveillance for suspected case of Ebola at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo Akwa Ibom State.

Our source from the hospital reported this morning that a certain patient with Ebola-like symptoms said to have just returned from Port Harcourt was rushed to the Accident and Emergency section of the tertiary institution last night. He was attended to by a doctor (House Officer) who was not adequately protected. He is said to have had enough contact to cause concern. The.The management of the institution has now taken proactive measures by transferring the said patient to the hospital’s Ebola Quarantine section for management pending confirmation of the diagnosis.

According to our source, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the institution has since informed the State Government Ebola Committee while efforts have began to send blood samples for testing. While the result of the test is being awaited, there is palpable tension among members of the health team especially with a Doctor now placed under surveillance. The doctor is not showing any symptoms currently.
