The Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos,
Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has described the
recent matrimonial debacle involving Nigeria’s
charismatic preacher and founder of Believers
Love World, a.k.a. Christ Embassy, Rev. Chris
Oyakhilome, and his wife, Rev. Anita Odegwa
Oyakhilome - as very disturbing, arguing that
when ministers of God begin to wash their dirty
linen in the public, it smacks of indiscipline.
According to the ecclesiastical prince of the
Catholic Church, when pastors refuse to honour
the vows they took at the altar of God, what do
they expect from the ordinary members of their
congregation?Okogie told Vanguard:
“When the going was good, they took vows
on the altar of God to stay together in
sickness and in health, until death do them
part. They promise to make one another
faithful partner in the presence of God, their
family and friends and vow to be
each other’s faithful partner in sickness
and in health, in good times and in bad,
and in joy as well as in sorrow. They
promise to love one another
unconditionally, to support each other,
honor and respect and cherish themselves
for as long as they both shall live,”
The cardinal argued that as soon as little
challenges arise, the so-called pastors forget the
vow and the spirit of forgiveness they preach to
their congregations on daily basis and opt for
divorce.
“It shows that they cannot live by what
they preach. The Bible says: ‘What God has
joined together, let no man put asunder.’
So why are they putting asunder what the
good Lord has joined together if they are
men of God as they claim?”
Asked what the development portrays for the
Church of God, the cardinal replied with a
question
“What Church are you talking about?”
He went on:
“It is not good. Are they true pastors?
Good shepherds of the Lord are expected to
do everything to shepherd their flock
including their spouses even when they err.
If God forgave us in spite of our filth, why
can any man who is truly called pastor not
forgive any malfeasance?”
Okogie blamed the Corporate Affairs
Commission, CAC, which registers every
organization which goes about deceiving people
in the name of church, noting that there are
several “useless” institutions that have been
registered churches which are currently painting
the Church of God in bad light.

there is no sin that is unforgivable, the word of God says that for no reason should a man put away his wife, except there is marital infidelity. But we must not forget what the holy bible teaches about love, in 1cor. 8:1, knowledge puffs up but love builds up, now let me tell you what that means, knowledge breeds pride, pride destroys humility, why love breeds humility, humility builds respect. 2, read 1cor. 13:4-5 love is patient, love is kind. It doesn't envy, it doesn't boast, it's not proud. 5, it's not rude, it's not self-seeking, it's not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. You read down to vs 8. Has anita forgiven chris 70x7 on that particular weakness. Has chris lost the authority to pray and subdue the demon of divorce, where is the love of Christ among these celebrated preachers, what has happened to the fruits of the Holy Spirit they are filled with. No pastor or priest is a standard for righteousness.

The man of God has the right to speak on the issue because, it concerned the body of Christ. What he said about washing their dirty linen in public is correct. Couldn't these ambassadors of Christ have acted in a manner traceable to their Lord and King, how is it that the world is now judging the Case of a prophetic and anointed man of God, which is totally against the teaching's of the word of God in 1cor. 6:1-8. Marriage is an ordinance that can only be sustained by spiritual truth, though it exist in a physical form, it was divinely instituted by God Himself. There is no part of scriptures that permits a bible practising christian to have a lawsuit against anyone, not even against a pagan. Therefore I earnestly urge every one to try as much as they can, to always read their bibles. The holy bible says in 1cor. 2: 13, that spiritual truths can only be express with spiritual words. The Lord hates divorce is spiritual words, what the Lord has join let no man separate is spiritual words, love keeps no record of wrong, love does not pay evil with evil, love forgives all wrong and seek the salvation of others, are all spiritual words powerful enough to demolish all the arguments anita and chris might have, thereby demolished the stronghold of divorce. May the good Lord in His mercy give victory to His children, amen.
