Safa has asked the people of Cape Town to come out in numbers when Bafana Bafana host Nigeria at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.

Tickets for the clash are still available and Safa's head of communications Dominic Chimhavi wants the fans to create an electric atmosphere when South Africa take on the Super Eagles.

“We are asking the members of the public to go out and buy tickets,” he tells KickOff.com.

“The tickets are going for R50, R100 and R150. Capetonians have never disappointed, especially when Bafana are playing, and we want them to create an electric atmosphere.

“We want to intimidate the Nigerians and we know that the Nigerians usually beat us, but this is a new dawn and we want to change that history,” he adds.

Tickets are still available at Computicket and Shoprite stores. Fans are asked to arrive at the game as early as possible. Kick-off is at 20h00.

The ‘new era’ under coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba began in impressive style on Friday night, with Bafana Bafana claiming a comprehensive 3-0 away win over Sudan in their first qualifier.

However, Nigeria are likely to offer a much sterner test. Not only are they the reigning Afcon champions after winning the 2013 tournament on South African soil, but they boast an imperious record against Bafana Bafana, with seven wins and just one defeat from nine matches.

Yet Sibusiso Vilakazi, who scored twice against Sudan on Friday evening for his first national team goals, believes that South Africa can defy history and overcome the powerful West Africans.

“We know our history against Nigeria but we are determined to change all that. History is always there to be rewritten and I am confident that come Wednesday, we will put smiles on most South Africans,” Vilakazi said.

Captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa believes Bafana’s high levels of confidence means they will be tough opponents for Nigeria, who surprisingly lost 3-2 at home to Congo Republic in their first qualifier.

“Yes, they say in soccer certain teams have their hoodoo side but we are ready for the Nigeria match. We are all determined to change the course of history and everyone cannot wait for Wednesday,” he said.

“The fact that they lost to Congo has not affected our preparations and determination; we are just concentrating on our task at hand and that is to beat them at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.”

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi played down his side’s loss to Congo in Calabar in their opening qualifier and has called on his countrymen’s support ahead of their match against Bafana in the Mother City.

LIVE UPDATE from Cape Town

Its MESHEBA VS KESHI

- Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba says his Nigerian counterpart Stephen Keshi will be desperate to get one over his team after being snubbed for the Bafana job, and that his players must be ready for a fight at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night.
Keshi was one of the favourites for the South African coaching job along with Mashaba and former Portugal and Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz. But on Wednesday night he will be in the Super Eagles’ dugout when the teams clash in an African Cup of Nations qualifier (kickoff 8pm).
“Their coach is going to fight, because he believes he should have been coach of the South African team. He is going to try to use all his psychological tactics to make sure that all his players follow his instructions,” Mashaba said on Monday after a gruelling training session at Athlone Stadium.
Keshi hasn’t renewed his contract after the West African giants were knocked out in the second round of the World Cup in Brazil. He agreed to take charge of the African champions’ first two matches of the qualifiers while considering his options.
