A curious squirrel that stumbled across a drug stash outwitted three students
chasing it and a former policeman who
wondered what was going on.
Russia's Interfax news agency says the
rodent came across the drugs in a 'hiding place' in Syktyvkar in Russia's far north.
It was watched by three students from a
nearby school who started chasing the
squirrel which had a packet in its teeth.
As they ran around among trees, they
attracted the attention of a passer-by who happened to be a former police officer.
He told the lads to leave the rodent alone.
Then he looked at the squirrel carefully and recognized a small red bundle, sealed on all sides.
Interfax says such packets are usually used in the drug dealing business to pack doses for sale.
While he was trying to work out what
happened, the squirrel ran away, hiding
among the trees.
"We couldn't catch it, so we will never know where the packet will go and where it came from," the man said.
