The word stress originates from a Latin word “STRICTUS” which means “DRAWN TIGHT”
A person is said to be going through work stress when;
1. He or she has a busy lifestyle (mostly work related) and
2. can barely find time to rest,
3. He or she lacks appetite for food,
4. The immunity of the person begins to retard drastically
5. He or she is always treating one ailment weekly, from malaria to typhoid, back and forth.
6. Relies on supplementary food and energy drinks to survive.
Stress evolves as a result of an unchecked lifestyle, our body is designed to notify us when something is about to go wrong with a particular organ. stress makes you not to pay adequate attention to these signs.
The good news is that stress can be overcome if you try to apply these seven steps to your daily life.
1. Stop for a moment and try to observe your body: pay close attention to what your body is telling you -and do as it tells you; if it says you should rest, then rest.
2. Prepare a to-do list for yourself: Make a list of things you are to do for the day, attach the time to accomplish each task, also try to include in your list, a break time for yourself. Your break time maybe a little nap in your office behind closed doors or doing some stretches to revitalize your organs and give you strength.
3. Please do not skip breakfast: A good breakfast is the key to a healthy day at work. Going to work without breakfast is like using up the reserve of the fuel in your motor car; you might knock out the engine, which will take time to start again, you don’t want to be that engine. A good natural breakfast of cabbage, cucumber and carrot with three- four loafs of wheat bread, accompanied by honey
4. Take your tasks one at a time: do not try to rush up your tasks in other to prove your level of competence to anyone; the reason is that the moment you become unable to carry out your duties due to a particular ailment, there’s another replacement for you already. I’m not saying that you should be lazy or sluggish, go back to step # 2 and apply that step.
5. Observe break time: Once it’s time for a break, which might last an hour or less, instead of chatting with colleagues, use that time to take a natural tea and a short nap. If you’re not feeling too worked up and you feel like chatting with colleagues, make sure you do it sitting down, avoid talking too much, and make sure you revitalize your body with fluids, green tea or water(room temperature) will be ideal for you.
6. Exercise: enroll in a yoga session or get a personal fitness trainer to give you conditioned exercises that will help you to manage your stress levels and beef up your energy. Cardiovascular exercises should be minimal; more of stretches and meditation should be your core focus. and cinnamon tea, will increase your energy and concentration levels through the day.
