The Super Eagles are now ranked sixth in Africa having dropped four places in the September Fifa ranking released on Thursday morning Sep 18, 2014 11:46:00 Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped four places to 37th in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday. The Eagles are now the sixth-ranked African side behind Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Ghana and Senegal following their poor start to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers earlier this month. Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar before playing a goalless draw with South Africa in Cape Town. Congo benefitted from their two victories last month by moving 30 places up to 48 while South Africa only moved up two places to 67th. Final Group A side Sudan dropped 18 places to 133 in the world. World champions Germany (1) are top of the pile with Argentina in second place. The Netherlands, who won bronze at the World Cup, dropped to 4th on the rankings as Colombia moved up to third position. Former world champions Spain fell to the 8th spot with France in 9th place as Switzerland occupy the tenth position. In Africa, Ghana moved up three places to stay 33rd in the world and fourth in the continent with Senegal onto the 36th spot and fifth in the region. Cameroon moved up twelve places to 42nd. Even at this leap, they are the eighth highest-ranked African side. Cape Verde are the highest movers having jumped 33 places up to the 41st place in the world and seventh in Africa, while Congo who stunned Nigeria 3-2 in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers moved 30 steps up to emerge as the 48th best team in the world and 11th on the continent.
