Kaduna United captain Emmanuel Ambrose has revealed that the team will not play the Premier League fixture scheduled for this weekend if the club fails to settle their incredible salary arrears.

The Kaduna squad, who took part in a protest on Monday, claim that they have not received 12 months worth of wages and have given the club’s authorities until Friday to settle the matter.

Indications are that the players will continue with training in the interim but that appears to be the only guarantee at this juncture.

"We will continue to go for training, but if there is no response by Friday, the players will not honour the upcoming matches," Ambrose told the Daily Independent on Tuesday.

"We appeal to the state government to make necessary arrangements for the payment of our salary,’’ added the upset Ambrose.

Kaduna are currently 15th in the league standings, just one point clear of the relegation zone. To suggest that the current circumstances have had an adverse effect on the club would be an understatement.

"This protest is an appeal and we are not fighting the government. We have been working without pay, how do they expect us to survive," said one of the players on the condition of anonymity.

"Most of us have families and we are the bread winners of our various families, so, we have to survive. We have been in debt for the past 12 months and still we have to keep our lives going,’’ he added.

"Since the beginning of the league, Kaduna United has not scored any away goal and this has affected our position on the league table. We just won our game yesterday with five nil to enable us move away from relegation zone.’’
