A Short Story......... Fantastic Friday by Nobody: 3:35pm On Sep 26, 2014
Fantastic Friday

It was a beautiful afternoon and the sun shone brilliantly making the pool a beautiful glistening mirror. Samuel made a quick turn around the corner and headed for the pool but froze suddenly as something caught his attention. Sitting all by herself at a table was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen or watched on TV. Samuel found himself walking towards the lady, he did not know what he was going to say or what he was going to do, He just made on like someone who was charmed by juju and indeed he was charmed. But by beauty.
He introduced himself and engaged her in a little chat and was surprised by the grace and courtesy displayed by such a beautiful lady...he had expected an hostile reception going by her level of beauty and his gate crashing approach. Samuel began to wonder if he had met the angel of his life. He had not been very lucky in finding true love, he just broke up with Beatrice about two months ago after she called him a slowpoke in the presence of his friends. He had to let her go, not because of that incidence in particular but because of her cumulative insolence. She had a bad history, including calling him a slowpoke for failing to 'like' a picture she uploaded on the social media -Nairaland. He had also been involved with a lady or two before her but they never made significant contribution to his life_- they were after what they would 'chop'

Samuel decided to end his chat with this newly found angel and requested her phone number. But as she brought out her pen to write, a knock rocked his door and sent him back from dreamland. It was his Aunt Dolapo, and had come to request if he could pay some money into the bank for her. He was not happy that such a blissful dream was truncated, moreover it was a Friday morning-one of his favorite days. It was the beginning of his weekend as he hardly went to work on Fridays and often engaged it as an 'extended sleeping morning'
Aunty Dolapo loved Samuel like her own child and had insisted he stayed with them in her boys quarters as soon as he got a job in her city. She would have wanted him to stay in the main house but felt he was matured and needed his privacy.
Samuel was lost in thoughts as he drove down to the bank, trying to bring the dream back into reality in his mind-but it would never be the same. Suddenly, he noticed some motor-cyclists moving across him at a T-junction. His absent-mindedness had not made him notice the traffic controller who had stopped his lane. He stepped on his brakes sharply but got hit by the driver behind him who probably had not paid attention too. Thank heavens he only had a few scratches on his posterior bumper, however the other driver was not so lucky. His bumper and bonnet got damaged.

'you are a very stupid man' The driver of the other car yelled at him.
Samuel was surprised - did not this man just hit him from behind?. He was a peace loving and gentle guy and simply absorbed the insult, got into his car and zoomed off. He would have sympathized with the man, but the thought of the man's insolence had replaced his sympathy. He hardly insulted people and hated insolence too.
As he stepped into the banking hall, he ran into a very good old friend Tokunbo -they were fond of each other growing up. He got to know that Tokunbo had just returned from Europe because his company was about to open a branch in Nigeria and he was to be the branch manager. Samuel could not believe his luck, he was a computer engineer and was assured of a spot when his friend's telecoms company got operational in Nigeria. He had a job but this was going to be far better and with a fatter salary too not mentioning other entitlements.
He stood on the queue lost in thoughts, he was surely going to step on higher grounds. Did not his pastor say drawing close to God and paying ones tithes regularly bring blessedness, yes...he so much believed that now.

He was however jolted back into consciousness when he heard the word 'next please' made by the cashier, and someone tapping him gently in the arm. He confidently made his way to the cashier but froze when he saw her. He could not help but stare..maybe his mouth was even agape too...he had never seen such a beautiful girl in life. she also had a wonderful diastema that decorated a lovely smile that could melt even a heart of steel. Or was she the lady in the dream?
'how may I help you Sir?' came her sweet voice
'oh sorry' Samuel checked himself and handed her the deposit slip and cash.
He decided to engage her in a quick little chat as she attended to him and it looked rewarding. The hurdle came when she politely turned down his request for her mobile phone number. Samuel was not going to take 'no' for an answer, he politely told her he was going to hold up her line till he got it. After some hesitation, she shook her head and gave it to him reluctantly. Her reason was that- he looked serious about his threat and some customers were beginning to mumble under their breath...as if she heard someone say something about a woman wrapper and a mammy water or so .

It could be she had not fallen for this guy as her eyes were saying or she was pretending, as Samuel was a charming Youngman. He was of average height, not classically handsome as some would say but not bad looking either and he had a wonderful personality that will make most ladies fall like humpty dumpty
He thereafter kept in touch with Lydia. Occasionally at first, then more frequently as the bond grew stronger and they seemed to have the perfect receptor for one another's binding sites. Though they had their own challenges like any other relationship, they were able to sort them out. After a year of dating, they tied the knot. By now he had become a prominent staff of the Reduvid Telecoms company and a 'Big Man' in the society. However, there is one question he couldn't and would probably be unable to answer...was Lydia the lady in his dream?
